The Flyers should answer every phone call and listen to any offer. The Flyers need to make smart moves, not just moves. They still need defenseman for next season.

thats all we are saying here...im not moving them for the sake of moving them, but if i can get 2/3 rdrs this year i do it

Not semantics, it's looking at the Flyers defenseman as individuals realistically. when assessing a player like Coburn, you look at what kind of player he actually is, and shouldn't look at him as a player who isn't capable of playing the role of lead defenseman, so they should look to trade him because he isn't going to get better and become that #1 defenseman. That's looking at it from a flawed perspective in my opinion.

I am, because trading Streit or Coburn would be a deal that I'd really shoot for the moon in terms of adding assets. In the case of the 5 you mentioned, it's more getting some value for a redundant and easily replaceable piece.

That said, Streit and Coburn are far from untouchable.

Streit's 37 years old. When the Flyers are actually contending again, he's going to be near 40. I fully understand he's still a highly effective player right now, but in two or three years, can they really count on him playing as well as he is now?

The case of Coburn is a bit different. He's still young enough to be a decent piece of the future here. To me, it depends mightily on what he wants in his next contract. If he wants $5.5mm and 5 years, even if it is market value, I walk. He's a terrific guy to have when you have a number one defenseman, but he struggles when he's asked to do too much. To me, that's not worth a massive investment.

Also, I'm not looking at things through orange colored glasses, I'm not overly worried about icing a "good" team next season. I don't think they're one piece away from contention. I think it's going to be a couple years.

So, yeah, if I can get a 1st rounder for Streit, I seriously consider it. Ditto for Coburn. Sign a veteran stop gap for a season or two, even if it costs a little more against the cap, because it's a re-tooling season.

Otherwise, trade the top pick, toss in youngsters and get the Goddamned number one defensemen, if you feel they really are that one piece away from contending.

- Jsaquella

Agreed. I think there is a lot of confusion surrounding what some people are proposing. There's a massive and integral difference between trading players for anything and trading them for a good return. I don't see you or many others calling for trading Coburn or Streit in the best deal possible. Like you said, you would only deal them for a good return. Best deal possible does not necessarily equal a deal that should be taken and I think that's where people are getting confused.

I think this team is seriously 2 or 3 years away from being a serious contedner to make noise. Not just get in but do something in the playoffs. That is how I am planning.

I would take the risk in a guy like Bogossian. That is jut my feeling. Or you need to find a player like Chara. Might not be a top guy now but could be. I know the injury history scares people but i think I would take a shot at him. He has all the potential and skill set to anchor a top pair and is young still.
- J35Bacher

I'm usually a big fan of the reclamation, but I'd be leery of getting stuck with another potential Luke Schenn at this point, with the quality of kids they have on the horizon.

Bogo's pretty good, but all the injuries have derailed his development. Not sure he's going to come anywhere close to ever reaching his draft-day upside (potentially higher than Doughty, supposedly).

IMO, just trade what they can in the next couple of TDL's, fill in the gaps with short-term, value UFA's or with dudes like Manning/Alt from within. Ride this thing out.

Exactly -- you can't do nothing but draft AND keep the same roster AND keep all the coaches while likely missing the playoffs and possibly picking in the Top 5.

Because you're picking there because plenty of people will have failed. No one should be afraid of this roster looking different next year -- it would be insane for it not to

I would consider trading one of Coburn or Streit for the right price, but I wouldn't trade both. I'd definitely look to move one of Grossmann or LSchenn.

If you can get a 1st in this draft for both Coburn and Streit, it would be hard to say no in terms of rebuilding. 3 1st rounders in what many are saying is the deepest draft since '03 is hard to pass up. I wouldn't want to move them for later picks unless other assets were involved.

There's also zero rush to trade Streit or Coburn, because they are both signed for another year. If I gauge the price on Coburn and the best I get is a 2nd, no way I trade him.

But if Edmonton offered Pittsburgh's 1st rounder and Mitchell Moroz, I'd strongly consider it.

The same goes for other guys with term left. The one exception is MacDonald, because if I could lose that contract, I'd jump at the opportunity. I just doubt anyone has interest in him at that cost.

given how tough it's been to stock the blueline with top 4 defensemen, I don't think I'd move both just for first round picks, unless they were home runs (top 10?). How far into the future should we be looking, exactly?

Plus you get an extra first and it gives you amunnition to move up in the draft if there is someone you really want.

Bogo's deal is too long and expensive for a guy that's on IR more than Colaiacovo.

Giroux is not on ice, Rinaldo is skating with Brayden Schenn and Jake Voracek.

Some guys commit a dumb penalty and get benched for a month. Others do the same and get promoted to the top line. Berube'd.
