There's no need to call him a bust, but he's got a lot of work to do. He's got a lot of tools, he just needs to develop them.

What do you think you would have to give up to get Kassian from the Canucks. I think his size, grit and skill would be great with us. I think he could be another Beleksy if given the chance. Can play a mean game and then also provide scoring. He also isn't lost when playing with top line guys.

I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad that Canada won. I'm glad that Morin was part of a gold medal team, but at the same time, I think he had the lowest TOI of anyone on the team. At times, he was actually a liability, as he had trouble handling the speed of some other teams and was a bit reckless out there. I know it's a small sample playing against what amounts to an under-20 All Star game, but I was hoping he could be a bit more imposing and help to move the puck better than the limited amount of what I saw.

I think Morin has more hockey sense than Schenn. He makes a lot of subtle plays that help the team exit the zone. Luke Schenn had no hockey sense at 19. He still doesn't have much.
- PhillySportsGuy

I think I may have more hockey sense than Luke Schenn. I just don't have all of the other things that make a successful hockey player (size, shooting, skating, passing, etc.). Then again, Luke Schenn and skating are about as related as a a screwdriver is to a pack of cigarettes.

Yeah, expressing concerns about a guy's ceiling and saying that the Flyers will need to be patient with his development are really being definitive and negative about a guy's potential.

And certainly, the fact that several NHL scouts and former NHL GM's have said the same thing about Morin or felt he was a bit of a reach because of the likelihood of a slow developmental curve has no impact whatsoever in the validity of those opinions, because obviously anyone that expresses a concern about Morin thinks they're smarter than NHL scouts.

Big young kid, raw, etc. He's got tools lets hope he develops them. Voicing concerns isn't giving up on a player, nor is it proclaiming to be smarter than an NHL scout.

That said, I think I would rather have Morrissey and Duclair instead of Morin and Z2.

I also thought he was going to have a bigger role with their team. I was under the impression he was going to be a " shut down guy" and be a guy getting key minutes in tight games. Most of his work was on PK. Maybe his injury really did set him back further than we thought. But he did look very slow

I know, I was being facetious.

It's just like suggesting the Flyers should listen to all offers for defensemen gets turned into "The Flyers should have a firesale and trade everyone ASAP".

And yeah, I'd rather have Morrissey and Duclair, as well.

I know you were.

I think an interesting question regarding Morin is this:

Will Morin be considered a disappointment if he turns out to be Chris Therien with a little more snarl? It's early, but it might be the what we are in for.

If he comes in and plays ten years as a top four defenseman, it would be hard to be disappointed. Ron Sutter had a good career and wasn't a disappointment, but obviously choosing him over Scott Stevens wasn't the best decision.

That's true. I guess I look at it like this. Morin is going to be somewhere in between Chris Mcallister, and Chris Pronger. I'm kind of stating the obvious here. Let's see how far he can push the needle in the positive direction.

Just heard interview with Peter DeBoer on Toronto radio station. Sounds like a first class guy with good head on his shoulders. I didn't realize he went through 3 different owners and GM's during his tenure in Florida. Said he learned a lot from Lou in NJ and he would like to jump back into coaching.
I would take him in a heart beat. I have a feeling he may end up in TO if they choke again this year.

it's the size of the grand canyon. Morin is in the infancy of his development, so I wanted to leave plenty of room.

I do think there is a small faction of Flyers fans who believe Morin is going to be another Pronger based on his size, and the fact he looks a little like Pronger. Those folks are going to be pretty disappointed.
