Why would EDM deserve the #1 or 2 ahead of BUFF, ARI, or CAR?
- VanHockeyGuy

Who cares about who "deserves" it? The team that wins the lottery is who gets the pick. The fact is, the NHL is a billion dollar business that wouldn't risk it's credibility trying to meddle in the lottery process. Anyone who thinks they would isn't thinking it through very much.

"Useful Klinkhammer"

Shall I go back to when the Pens got Klinkhammer.. and you SLAMMED and TRASHED him, praising his being gone?

Trying to buy views by hitting on the hot topic is fine, but don't contradict yourself so horridly. Its shameful.

Thanks, I didn't realize you were the blog police. I wold like a full copy of your rules and regulations, if possible.

Rebuild the rebuild? You know you (frank)ed up big time when.....
- Nucker101

Perhaps Perron demanded to be traded and MacT's hands were tied. A 1st and roster player is pretty damn good for an Oiler player with ZERO value.

Will see how the tank develops, the cupboard cleaning will begin soon, in your case it already started yesterday.

By moving our 3rd line winger?

Meddling with the lottery process, would be called tanking.

The fact is, this is about perception vs. reality and it's pathetic that in 2015 you can't write about anything that doesn't conform to popular perception without being called a troll (which is a gd fishing term, by the way).

I would way rather be called an idiot.

If you look at the piece and all the arguments are backed up and its well thought out and it isn't just an empty headline, I think it's really reductive and basic to call it "trolling."

I bet either he demanded one privately or the team was unhappy with those post-game comments he made and either way he wasn't going to be around for the long haul so a deal had to be made. But at this point they should be looking to add quality roster players(preferably ones who can play good minutes and know how to play in all 3 zones, not more picks/prospects. Maybe a deal like that wasn't out there, but I feel that's the same excuse always used for Mac T.

Now, if they flip the pick for that type of a roster player than I have no issues with it.

I think it's quite obvious I am talking about it from an NHL perspective.

His production was that of a top 6 winger, he also received more ice time than a typical 3rd liner.

So it's OK for teams to "meddle" with the process and not the league?

MacT has made excuses? We got a 1st round pick in a deep draft and a roster player. Who is going to give up a player who is good in all 3 zones for a guy with 5 goals?

I assume, without knowing, that one is legal and one is illegal. Teams tanking has been a part of the NHL for years, the draft lottery is monitored by independent sources while it takes place does it not?

For the love of God I hope the Oilers end up third though!!!

Yes or No, could one not suggest a team that tanks to get a higher draft pick be called "meddling with the process"?

I must admit, I was looking for a reaction; hopefully Craig MacTavish will get it sorted but it takes time.

What moves have the Oilers made this season to tank? We tried to shore up our defense with Fayne and Nikitin. We tried to bring in a physical presence in Pouliot. We shipped out AHL tweener Arcobello for an NHL veteran in Derek Roy.

If Perron indeed demanded out we got a 1st round pick for him which could be used to trade with a cap team like Boston or Philadelphia. If we turned that 1st into a Coburn or Soderberg would that not improve the Oilers?

We need a Sportsnet series called "Oil Tank", so we can see behind the scenes exactly how a tanking of this magnitude is accomplished....

Do you think they will acquire someone during the season with that first?

I sure hope that is the plan. I don't know if a trade would take place now or at the draft however.
