Somewhat...That work??

Maybe. I'm not sure ROR has even hit his prime. That whole team is kinda struggling tho and I'm not sure this season is much of an indicator to how the individuals will progress.

ROR is leading the league in takeaways and he almost never takes penalties. Kadri has 3 more points than ROR this season in the same amount of games. Kadri is also due a hefty raise after this season, probably 5.5 which is still cheaper but RORs deal is up next season.

The name that keeps being brought up between the Leafs and Kings is Mike Richards, who is under control through 2019. Which means, in order for there to be a move, the Kings would have to accept a big unwanted contract in return.

I would like to see Dion Phaneuf in LA. I think he would really be a nice fit for the Kings given that Slava Voynov has killed his NHL career and Robyn Regehr will likely be gone. You slide in Phaneuf onto a blue line with guys like Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez and Green, not bad!

From a Maple Leafs point of view, I would like to also get Brayden McNabb in return. McNabb is just 23 and has an edge to his game. I like what I have seen this season so far from him and he has been a fairly reliable guy on that line. He also has a pretty powerful shot that goes overlooked a lot with guys like the ones I mentioned above on the team. In Toronto, McNabb could get a lot of time on both the PP and PK.

If another player is thrown in, maybe Carter Ashton to LA. He fits the Kings style, and could even be an upgrade over someone like Jordan Nolan. Ashton is an unknown still, and only 23, could turn into something decent still. Not sure how he fits on the Leafs, but the Kings are a good fit for his style, which would be a bottom six spot.

Regarding a deal with Colorado, we always hear the name Ryan O'Reilly. The Avs are having a poor season, with a lot of the same issues hurting the Leafs. I wouldn't want to make a deal with them unless the names Landeskog or MacKinnon are involved. I want someone with accountability and who can provide some leadership. I think a deal with the Kings (something like Richards and McNabb for Phaneuf and Ashton) makes a lot of sense for both teams and they both fill some needs.

[quote=royalgardens]Then again who in the world would give up a first rounder for David Perron? Quite a big surprise from the Penguins, then again, their first round pick is always in the bottom 8 or so.

Antoine Vermette is a better player than Perron, so I would think the Coyotes would get even more than a first rounder and fourth line player the Penguins gave Edmonton.

Count Toronto out, they need to keep their first rounders. And this team is not going to seriously contend for a playoff spot anytime soon. At least not this season. So adding a veteran like Vermette doesn't make sense for Toronto who probably won't turn into something of an elite level club until 2016-17 or so.

I would really like to see the Kings and Leafs get together once again...Richards/McNabb for Phaneuf as centerpieces sound just fine to me. The Kings need to solidify their blue line with the absences of both Voynov and likely Regehr. Leafs could use a strong young defender like McNabb.

This move doesn't fix the Leafs just yet. They will either have to resign or trade Cody Franson or decide to trade Gardiner. Along with that, they should decide what to do with Phil Kessel or James van Riemsdyk. One of those two needs to be moved as well. I would rather see them trade Franson and JVR and hang onto Gardiner and Kessel.

Then, resigning Mike Santorelli becomes the next big issue. Letting guys like Gardiner, Kadri, Holland, etc. develop is the next step. Toronto just needs to restructure the core a bit, and if they can move Phaneuf in deal for Richards (similar contracts, fill different needs), also dump David Clarkson and move around guys like JVR, Franson or whoever, then things will start to shape up better in Toronto. That is, if they trade for the right guys.

The difference in Perron and Vermette is that Perron still has another year left on his contract for less than 4 million while Vermette could end up just being a rental.

I was surprised we got that much for him Too. Then again, I'm surprised every trade deadline too what some players go for. Perron has a full year on his deal left after this season and a cheap contract, whereas Vermette is a UFA in a few months. Might impact comparative value.

Well, Toronto needs some guys with grit and who can provide some leadership. Mike Richards is a nice start. Both teams get rid of extravagant contracts, and both could fit each other's needs well with Phaneuf going the other way.

Not sure about where Franson/Gardiner/Kessel/JVR could go. If they keep Gardiner and Kessel, then the team would need more grit and hustle guys like Santorelli and Komarov. Solid role players basically. If they traded away those two, then look for a bit more speed and scoring. Kessel will always be an elite goal scorer and he can be made to be more of a defensive player than JVR I think. Randy Carlyle may not be the right fit if the team keeps Kessel. The team will need a more defensive minded coach (too bad they were not able to bring in someone like Barry Trotz, who is making a very loose Capitals team in seasons past a tougher defensive team to play against this season. He is also making Ovechkin be more accountable.)

The core of this team, if things happen like I hope...they are going to be Bernier, Kadri, Bozak, Holland and either Kessel or JVR and either Gardiner or Franson. Role players like Santorelli, Komarov, Panik are going to fill some big roles too. There is a ton of work that needs to be done of course.

I would hang onto Joffrey Lupul. The guy is way too much of an injury concern to be dealt I would imagine. You either keep his contract and injury issues or keep Clarkson's. I would much rather just do away with Clarkson altogether. In fact, I wish he would be one of the injured players coming off the rough Boston game. When in the lineup, at least Lupul is doing something on the ice and is a solid player and provides minimal leadership on a team with basically none. You get nothing from Clarkson, period. I doubt you would be able to trade Clarkson at all either, so a buyout after this season is most logical.

I can see a lot of changes happening soon...quicker the better. If the right moves are made sooner, then there is still a chance this team could get into the playoffs yet.

Lupul, Gardiner and a 1st. Seems fair to me even though I don't believe Lupul carries much value.

TOR should keep Kadri. Then they have depth down the middle with ROR, Kadri and Bozak. Maybe TOR adds Holland to the trade with COL adding another piece.

- TandA4Flames

Sorry not even close, 1st the Avs don't need another little offensive D-Man in Gardiner. They already have one of those in Barrie who is already a much better D-Man then Gardiner is , the kid has little to no value to the Avs.
Hell even Elliott in Lake Erie is as good as Gardiner is, sorry he is just useless to the Avs.
As for Holland again No value, another 3rd or 4th liner @ best.
Gaurrenteed The Leafs won't pull the trigger on ROR because they won't give up what'll take to get him.

Good God, the Leafs are stuck with the likes of Phanuef, Clarkson, Lupul for a very....very long time.

If they offered teams clarkson and 10 1st round picks....they still wouldnt take him!!!!

this guy cant skate let alone play hockey!! oh, and Phanuef is no better

The Leafs should not trade kadri. Kadri for ROR straight up is a loss for the Leafs. Kadri has posted advanced stats similar to Tavares and Duchene for three years. The Leafs should be trading for a defensemen.
- James_Tanner

Kadri for Yandle straight up, all things considered a good trade for both.

You are right about Clarkson but holy man get your facts straight, Phaneuf is a durable work horse, like him or not.
