This pic is not for the squeamish, but I wouldn't think a night off at minimum would hurt G after a gash like this one... https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B6ZH0g8IEAArDQk.jpg

Looks like it just missed the Achilles. Scary.

I just think that Hextall realizes that one trade, however big, would not miraculously fix this team. I'm sure Holmer would've tried something for some short-term bump in the standings, but I prefer Hextalls approach (so far). Hexy will probably get some flak from fans due to what you put forth above, but it just shows that a lot of fans still has the Holmer mindset. Will Hexy be able to withstand the criticism from fans and media to mould (sp?) his own team? I hope so.

Actually I believe the Downie/Talbot deal helped spark this team. Some credit could go to the Emery beating of Holby but they both pretty much happened at the same as one another. Downie had instant chemistry with Read and Couturier, still the best I've seen so far. If it was even remotely possible that TJ Oshie was on the market and Matt Read alone could swing that deal, I'd hop on that pretty quick. I think Hextall should be looking. Careful but looking. Problem is, what are we willing to part with of value? I think I'm only reasonably willing to dangling Michael Raffl to see what his market value truly is.

It remains to be seen if Hexy is the right man for the job. What can he really do right now? I am sure he works the phones but making a move for the sake of making a move because the team is lacking in many areas isnt really fixable with minor trades.
I doubt the Leclair, Desjardin, Dionne type trade is available anymore. Who would the Flyers trade? Jake is about what you would have to give up in that scenario. Or, you have to gut your team by unloading a Coots, B Schenn type and prospect.
I think once the trade deadline nears we will see some moves made when teams are either selling to unload salary or for playoff runs.

Yeah, I guess, he certainly had something to do with the Bryz signing and the general direction of the organ-eye-zation.

But Vinny and AMac are on Homer.

Hextall should be calling the Jets too see what kind of picks he could pry away from them. They need D badly, with 4 guys out at the moment ..while they try to hold on to their first playoff spot in a long time.
Grossman, Schenn, Happy Meal, ...he'll even Coburn..

Actually feeling pretty good this morning, hard to believe

Sticking to just scotch and a little water is the trick. Its the sugary stuff and the mixers that give you a hangover.

Absolutely.
I'd offer Coburn straight up or Streit plus a 3rd for their 1st
Or Grossmann or Luke for a 2nd (I'd be willing to add one of our 4ths to get that deal done)
Or AMac for a 3rd, just to unload the deal
or Schultz for a 3rd

Any of the above would make me happy.

You would only hope that Hextall is working the phones. Hell if he went down to the dressing room to rip this team after their loss in NY... Last night he must have been restrained by security from going down there and looking to decapitate personel with a goalie stick.

Heck I'd be happy with just sending them Coburn for Pittsburgh's 2015 1st and Edmonton's 2015 3rd.

I would do it..but they won't. MacT would not get out of town alive if he traded their first this year.

That's the one they'd have a shot at getting, Edmonton won't give up their own 1st.

Yeah .. I really can't understand why they displayed zero effort last night. It's embarrassing. Most games of late, I tune in expecting it to be a snorefest of a game and that's unacceptable.

I think some are making up excuses for Hextall. This is "the plan". It's best to be patient. How patient does a fan base have to be to get some flat out effort, emotion and heart throughout the entire line up? Berube was quoted early last season of not seeing the point in yelling at his guys because it solved nothing. Where has this approach gotten him? There are guys available out there, just like we should probably make some of ours available. The Penguins made a pretty good move yesterday to better their team. Hextall has made one move to date, Hartnell for Umberger. I couldn't blame him for being a little hesitant to make a move because he's already taken a gamble and lost.

Honestly I think they are in this position because they haven't been patient so quite frankly I rather see Hextall be patient and not do anything knee jerk because its been 40 yrs since a cup.

It's harder to trade players with unattractive terms/salaries than it is to trade 1st round picks, so I don't see a lot getting done until we're closer to the TDL and Hexy can take advantage of other GMs looking to solidify their team for a deep playoff run. And I'm not sure what sort of excuses need to made for Hexy at this point in time, not even 1 year into his tenure. Next season - after the TDL deals and draft - will give us a much better idea how the road to the future is shaping up for this organization. IMO.
