I also think that we are going to be good no matter what, what we are missing is a true elite talent.

Risto can be great
Myers can be great
Reinhart could be great
Girgensons could be really, really good

McDavid will be elite. Period.

He puts us over the top

It's like Tampa, without Stamkos, they are still a good team, with Stamkos you know they will contend

- sbroads24

Suppose McEichel ARENT in this draft right now. Who goes number 1? Hanifin? Marner? Strome?

These players arent any less of the players they will be. Youre letting this "generational talent" hype of McDavid and Eichel seriously deprive you of what elite player we WILL be getting.

So McDavid tops out at 110-120 points. And Marner is a 85-95 point player. Is Marner any less effective or less of an "elite" offensive talent because he lacks those 25 extra points? No.

Reinhart and whoever we draft this year if its top 3 or 4 will be elite pieces to our rebuild. Reinhart is being so overlooked now. Ask Hockey Canada why they are leaned on Reinhart and not McDavid against their toughest competition in the USA.

Well, not sure about that. The Penguins can't seems to must up a cup when they want. We will be good, but no guarantees of a Cup.
- BigStew

At no point in time did the Penguins have the depth of quality prospects and draft picks that the Sabres have

The Sabres have an entire roster full of quality players /prospects and are missing 1 or 2 elite level players

We have rebuilt the right way so far

I'm sure it zero to do with the other teams trying to shut down Reinhart, McDavid, Lazar, and Domi............

Not saying Marner isn't good but he's not the second coming.

- dadeadhead

What do those guys have to do with Marner?

I'm not letting anything cloud my vision.

I see who the two best prospects are, and I see where we are in the standings. It's an opportunity to put us over the top.

Not turning my nose up at Mitch Marner, but he isn't on the same level as McDavid.

Not saying that we aren't but just because we get one of McEichel doesn't guarantee a Cup. I love what Murray is doing but there is more to winning than just having a star player, as you have said.

I agree. At this stage of the game, after years of suffering, to be this close to grabbing a generational player TM needs to do ANYTHING to assure drafting in the top 2.

He is, but at the same time he hasn't done anything here yet.

Drouin tore up the WJC like Reinhart and Domi are and he's not anything close to an impact player yet at the NHL level.

McDavid and Eichel are going to be top 6 NHL'ers the moment they are drafted IMO

No...in fact I have argued your point that it won't be "doomsday" if we end up drafting 3 or 4.

My point is that with one of them, you can count on us winning the cup within 3-6 years.

It's an extreme opinion but I believe it
