Just don't understand why this team is always so eager to get things done. Schultz has a track record of a 7th defenseman. He's played well, but there's always risk in him reverting back to 7th dman status. Why not take advantage of his resurgence and trade him at the deadline? If they love him that much, they can sign him this offseason. I just don't see any rush unless he's offering to re-sign at the same number and term.
- PhillySportsGuy

He's more valuable to keep as a low risk reliable veteran player to help in integrating the young defense into the lineup, if they can come to the right number to keep him, then he is as a trade asset. The Flyers just can't have a firesale on defensman that everyone wants them to have. It wouldn't be smart.

If he's paid as a 7th defense for another year, 2 at most, I'll be OK with it, but I am still hopeful at least 2 of these guys are moved at the deadline. Hoping, but doubting Macdonald is one of them.
- FlyerFan16

I'm fine with keeping him at 7th dman money. It just seems like when the team wants to get a deal done, they get a deal done.

I want them to discuss a deal, but not make one unless it's good value.

I would love to move Amac, but I think thats going to be tough to do unless the cap ends up increasing significantly.

Personally, I would be fine with moving any of the defenseman if someone offered good value. Even if that means moving 3-4 vets. I don't believe they'll contend next season anyway. They can always go out and sign guys like Nick Schutlz while they break in the young guys.

I'm of the opinion that they should be actively shopping Vinny for the right deal. Eating half his salary for a 5th is not the right deal. He has played well lately, which is great for him and the Flyers but his age and contract aren't making things any better.

As for the arguments, that's the Buzz for ya. Seems like everyone hates this forum and the posters but always comes back to complain about said forum and posters. Stay away if you don't like it. Just my 2 cents.

i still don't understand the 2 year rinaldo extension. i want this kind of stuff to stop with hextall.
- hammarby31

At least that deal can be waived and sent to the AHL.

I didn't really like what the deal meant for Rinaldo. They rewarded him after a terrible season and made it clear that they see him as a part of the future.

I completely understand your thought process. We just have to see how this plays out. If they sign Shultz and Del Zotto to cap friendly 1 or 2 year deals and move a couple of veterans and leave room for a couple of rookies to potentially break in next year, I'll be happy.

Yeah. We'll see what happens at the deadline. I just get the feeling teams will be more willing to trade for a guy like Schultz because he has an expiring contract. If you told me you can re-sign Schultz or get a 2nd rounder at the deadline, I would take the 2nd rounder.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of 'dirty' but I sure do miss the days when the flyers were hated because they were a tough team to play against. This is a team that had the third most fighting majors last year...21st this year so far!

Teams used to hate playing against them because there was always a chance that someone had to answer the call. Fighting isn't hockey, but to me it shows a passion and sense of team/family that is clearly lacking on this season's team. Opponents' game plans this season (I'm sure) are a far cry from there preperations for the flyers from the last few seasons. I guarantee you teams in the A don't look forward to playing the Phantoms (or at least certain players don't) because you've got Mathers playing with his heart on his sleeve and sticking up for his teammates. This includes doing some of Stortini's work as well.

Last season Luke Schenn and Wayne Simmonds had 6 fighitng majors each and always seemed to be in the thick of the scrums. Simmmonds went on to amass 60 pts with his 106 PIMS - I don't think its coincedence! Where are these guys?!? SEAN EFFIN COUTURIER was the last flyer to drop the mitts back back on Dec. 2nd! Know who fought before him on the 26th of Nov?....wait for it....SEAN EFFIN COUTURIER!

If I was ANY Flyer who isn't on the first line, I'd be embarassed by ....

1- my 'enforcer' only has 3 fighting majors
2- guys who had 6 fights last year are on pace for 2
3- Sean Couturier has been our Go-To-Guy when things get ugly for the past month or so....

It was bad enough to watch teams win cups by playing 'traditional flyers' hockey' better than the flyers do...(Bruins, Hawks, Kings) (and by that I mean aggressive, hard-nosed play where 3 of 4 lines are a threat to hurt you on the score board AND 3 of 4 lines are a threat to harm you physically)! Now the Flyers don't even play 'flyers hockey' anymore.

Detroit, Chicago and Nashville are getting it done without much fighting. Having said that, they don't really have much to fight about. Of the 18 teams with 10 or more fighting majors in the league, only 5 are realistically out of the playoff picture (Buffalo, Edmonton, Arizona, Columbus and Ottawa)...the other 13 are fighting tooth and nail to get the job done. I don't see that type of spirit anywhere on the Philadelphia Flyers this season, and it sucks.

Teams absolutely would be willing to acquire Schultz at the deadline. He's a reliable veteran 3rd pair defenseman that can add depth to a team for a playoff run. In my opinion, you aren't going to get a 2nd round pick for Schultz. If they could, I'd deal him. Anything less and he is worth more to keep as a short term player.

Okay, so what's the problem? Why so bitter to a point where you've gotta comment around me but not to me? If it annoys you that I defend and support Lecavalier or other players the majority might be down on, isn't all of this sort of sad? By all means, make this make sense. That swat you speak up normally comes with tear, a reaction from you whipping your eyes.
