I wouldn't consider it a mistake if they kept a cost controlled blueliner over that third round pick. I wouldn't be bothered if they got the pick, either. It's all kind of... whatever, y'know?

If they would trade Schultz for a 3rd, it's not the end of the world. It's about looking at value and all the factors. I think the factors favor keeping Schultz more then trading him at this point. If someone wants to give up a 2nd for Schultz, see ya.

Well, I mean, I've had his shirsey sitting in my NHL store cart all day, so it's kind of a big deal to me.

oh sure, risk having it hit the open market. That's never bit anybody in the hind quarter before

(I don't know where I'm going with this somebody please start a fight)

If Schultz is traded to a playoff team at the deadline, he could become a fan favorite there, and the market for his sweater could expand. All about timing and patience. Have to take risks in life to get anywhere. Pull the trigger.

I'd keep Schultz if all I could get was a 3rd round pick. Adds more value keeping him. Always the possibility of trading him in 15/16 at the deadline, when younger players have gained more experience and are ready for a bigger peice of the pie.

The relatively small chance of getting a steal in the 3rd round are worth the risk of losing a 3rd pairing dman that will only be around for another year or two, IMO. Especially considering he's not in the Flyers long term plans.

Odds are the 3rd round pick will end up being an AHL or bottom 9/7th dman NHLer but sometimes you do win big on a scratch off and I think Schultz is well worth the price of the gamble. But that is just my opinion.

I'm a little gun shy after I took a risk pre-ordering my Perron jersey, I could of sworn we had him.

Now with Perron, that prediction of Crosby scoring 50 points in the next 30 games doesn't sound so farfetched.

eventually constantly moving firsts is going to bite them in the ass.

but oh well. id be a hypocrite if i didnt constantly point out G and Jakes windows if i didnt acknowledge crosby and malkins. they need to try and go for it.

It's not like Schultz is the only veteran, 3rd pairing dman available this offseason either. He's pretty easily replaceable. The team also has a number of veteran, 3rd pairing dmen already.

Swedes vs. Fins 3-3 in the 2nd.

Fins scored the first and 3 straight in the first period by Sweden, Fins have scored the last two to tie.

Neither Lindblom or Hagg are on the board.

Yup, which makes taking the risk on a 3rd round all the more lower.

Yup. When Hornqvist returns, that top 9 will be legit too. Crosby, Malkin, Perron, Hornqvist, Kunitz and Bennett if he can stay healthy. Not too bad at all.

bennett will likely be out again within 5 or 6 games.

which sucks too, because from a talent perspective, the kid wows a lot. but he doesnt really get to consistently string it together enough.

comeau being out right now sucks, but he should be back for playoffs. hes been a good player this year.

i really hope MJ slots crosby between perron and hornqvist and bumps kunitz down with malkin.

Sharp, Ghost, Cousins, MAB, Bartulis, Chaput, Fraser... when they're not pissing 3rds away on goons, they have a pretty decent hit rate.

I hope Bennett can put it all together. He'd be a good addition to team USA too.

You're right, the Flyers could wind up with a very good player with a 3rd round selection. The odds are overwhelmingly against that. That has to be part of the equation when deciding what to do with Schultz.

There are plenty of examples of all 30 teams taking stars and solid NHLers in the 3rd round and plenty more of guys that turn into nothing but I will gladly take my chances in the 3rd round if the price is only a year or two of Nick Schultz.

Those extra mid round picks help maneuver around in the draft as well

He's been solid. With the way he's played and the way teams overpay for defenseman at the deadline, I can see him fetching a 2nd or 3rd.

he really isnt much of a scorer even when he does play, but the puck skills and creativity in passing are both major pluses.

obviously he wouldnt be bumping guys like kane or kessel out of a job, but if he could get healthy for a full stretch enough to finally actualize his potential, he could be an intriguing possibility. would bring a lot of playmaking to the fold.
