I can see a short extension with a minimal raise to help ease the need to bring up the kids if they're maybe not quite ready next year, but I'd really hate for Hexy to go all Homer with Schultz and sign him long-term.

I just don't see why they need to jump the gun on him. He's played well, but he's not irreplaceable. I doubt any team is going to offer something unmatchable.

Yup. If they sign Schultz for 2 years at $1.75mm and then dump Grossmann or Schenn, great. But despite exceeding expectations, it's not like Schultz has been exceptionally good
