Listening to Nolan on GR this morning, the more he is around, the more I like him as our coach.

and I do agree with Cody we need to get him the (frank) off this team ... to think I wanted him as an assistant captain is just a complete joke now

he is our Sam Gagner (frank) my life

Keep up the good work Cody! Re-sign Lamo and D'Agostini for the rest of the season. I want a Shot at Eichel/McDavid!!!

I really think that's a talent thing. Per 19's comments from Murray, this roster was built like this for a reason. I don't think any other coach could do better.

with girgens, ennis, moulson, foligno, staff, stewart, coho, gionta, flynn
there is enough talent for the top 9 to produce something 5 on 5 and have a better pp% then 9

IMO the D is much better then last season as well

Foligno isn't good. Staff gets slammed here regularly. Gionta.....meh,

I don't like staff but he has put up over 300 points in the NHL which means something

foligno is a solid third liner, we just all expected more from him

Kudos for the picture - that is awesome, but the Stafford hate kills me.

Sure, on this team he's been slotted in the lineup higher than he should be (many times a first liner), but the guy is a damn decent hockey player overall. He's no star or anything, but without looking up similar salaried players and their production, I don't think he's too out of line.

Sure, he cashed in on good seasons for the contract, but it's still "only" $4M

From what I see vs other teams play in their zone. Our guys seem ok with letting them shoot instead of being agressive and taking the shot away. Our guys never get the chance to shoot. Maybe they should look at some film ? Don't know.

Nolan never has, and never was, and X's and O's guy. That's why they're being manhandled in the stat column. That's also why the Sabres almost lost the Ottawa series in 1997 and got manhandled by Philadelphia in the second round of that year. There's no doubt in my mind that they shouldn't be outplayed the way they have been most of the year. The main reason, which mirrored his success in 1997, that they went on the run they did was the goaltending was spectacular. Now that it's come back down to earth, you're seeing the team for what it truly is.

Nolan is a good motivator. He's good about making players feel good about themselves, and upping their confidence at times. That's why players like him. However, he will never be hired by a team that's serious about winning a championship.

Did a shot with Hodgson & Foligno last night. Seemed nice enough to me.
Tough to try n figure out what's happened to him this year. He's showed steady progress every year until now. Hopefully he can get back on track. Bc he's prob untradable with his salary. With his kind of talent, he should be able to start finding the net with more consistency.

Marrone's first comments to Pegula were "If you're going to fire me fine, but I have a game to get ready for".

So basically Marrone was paranoid of getting the axe from the get go.

It's one thing to get outshot. It's another to get outshot and lose the possession battle as badly as they have on most nights. The scary part would be if teams ever decided this Sabres team was worth gameplanning for.

I never said anything bad about Staff, but he was used as an argument as to why we should be better. I referenced that he gets slammed here. Overall I think it was a weak argument.

1) I forgot Foligno is only 23. I think I tend to forget that and judge him unfairly.

2) Did anyone see the winter classic ratings yesterday?

Well, all the comment said was staff is a solid NHL player and Foligno is a good 3rd liner, and you disagreed.

It's not only meant towards you anyways - which is sort of that bad part about quoting people, but Stafford has been crapped on for a very long time and I honestly have no problem with him here and remaining. I don't believe anything about the "old core"/"suck sisters" has any bearing anymore here, so if he would remain at a similar salary (4.5-4.75 per), I'd have no problem if he was re-signed. He'd be a fine 2nd liner to be jumped over by a younger player eventually and then he could rock the 3rd line.

Thing is 3 coaches couldn't get this team to score more or play better d.

One thing about our game that is killing me is our complete inability to score on a point shot. We really aren't even able to set them up.
