It all depends on the player, not the league, team, etc.
- NickTheKid87

Yep. A guy like Toews or Crosby is going to be good no matter where they played before

The future cap is a big hold up as well. Just about everyone the Flyers have to sell have term left on their contract.
- psuhockey

The three difficult ones would be Lecavalier, Umberger and MacDonald. All three are overpaid for what they bring and have significant term left.

Lesser hurdle is Streit. Two years after this one, combined with over 35 could be a stumbling block, but he's also got a valuable skill set.

There should be minor holdup in dealing Grossmann, Schenn, Coburn-guys with just next season on their deals-once the cap figure for next season is more certain.

We ballooned a dude. That was great. We also turned Halloween decorations into a perverted sex show, which was hilarious, but not viewed as constructive by HR

Probably not. The publicity around Eichel and McDavid is big enough that most fans know about them. Plus the teams at the top aren't going to be competing for a cup anytime soon so adding a guy like Voracek is more of a now move as opposed to a future one especially with a giant contract looming around the corner.

Why do people what to move Voracek? If you are talking return, Giroux would fetch more since he plays the valuable position of center.

- psuhockey

I don't want to move him. But he's going to get paid. How many teams currently have two players making 8+ million? Top of my head I would say Pittsburgh, Anaheim... Who else?

Next year Kane, and Toews are both making 10+. Maybe the Flyers can land Seabrook as a UFA after the 2015-2016 season. He will be 31 then. Would it be prudent giving him a 5-6 year deal? Not sure.

I moved one person's entire cubicle & put everything on that desk as they had it, I then moved into their cubicle for a week.

Had a few supervisors in on that, the person wasn't happy.....

I am not excited about the idea of moving him, but if you can get Max Domi and OEL in a Voracek package.. do you think about it?

This is just fun food for thought.. A guy I worked with mentioned it and I immediately dismissed him... and then was thinking about it while taking a dump about 6 hours later.

If they can add Seabrook for nothing but dollars, it would be great even at 5-6 years. The Flyers will need a good veteran defenseman to pair with the prospects. Seabrook is also right handed which is a weakness in the flyers system.

The Flyers have veteran defensemen but none that can actually carry a pair. Seabrook is a legitimate top pair defenseman. That is something none of the Flyers current defensemen can say anymore. Seabrook Sanheim would look pretty good to me.

I don't really like having two forwards making huge cash well into their 30's but the Flyers have no choice. The forward prospects aren't great and the complimentary scoring currently on the roster is too inconsistent. Unless they win the lottery this year, that could be a problem for a couple of seasons.

If the Flyes did win the McDavid sweeps, I actually would consider moving Giroux more than Voracek.

Yeah, I'd consider moving Voracek for Domi and OEL. Have to admit it. As much as I love Jake-probably my favorite player on the team-yeah, OEL is a legit franchise type defenseman

That good huh? I could see McDavid being a guy scoring 80-90 pts. I'm gonna have to guess that Eichel will be the JVR of the draft compared to Kane. The skill difference could be that much. Eichel is a college player while McDavid is dominating a league with much better players overall.
- GOA88

What are you talking about?

Eichel is co-leading NCAA D1 in scoring as a 17-18 yo... he's routinely going up against guys who are in their twenties... junior players are teens.

Both guys are really special.... don't make the mistake of discounting Eichel since most of the talk has been centered on McD. The margin between them is very very small, if it even exists.

I would be hard pressed not to take a deal like that. OEL is a player that every team would covet. I think it would take a decent amount to get him from Arizona.

I'm not sure signing Seabrook at the age of 31 is a good idea. Aren't the Flyers trying to get away from signing veterans that are past their prime?

I think the idea is to have someone of importance (one of your top 3 d-men) on the blue line with legit experience.

Thats probably what will happen. I know a lot of people wont agree with me on this but I will be like to see Coburn leave. Not that I hate him but we need an upgrade and he is complacent on this team now. Also, will be nice to live without his major game changing gaffes.
- GOA88

I'd be real careful about moving Coburn.

Why? Its not like Coburn is leading a solid blueline or even a solid pair at the present moment. Also, he's past his "prime" already.

He has been just as pedestrian as the rest of the blueline.

I would like to see Schenn-Couts-Simmonds again. Start grooming Laughton to play 3rd center with Read where he almost certainly will end up for the next few years.

When Coburn is placed in the correct role, he's a solid 2/3 NHL defenseman, with a big body and good wheels. That kind of player doesn't grow on trees. When Coburn is placed in the role of top defenseman on the team, which he isn't, he tries to do too much and plays outside of himself. I think the situation with Coburn is mental, and he puts too much pressure on himself. The worst thing the Flyers can do in my opinion is have a fire sale of defenseman. The integration of young defenseman should be gradual both in terms of quantity, and responsibilities given to those players early in their careers. I would only trade Coburn if I got a deal I couldn't pass up. Which in my mind is young NHL ready defenseman with potential, or a high first round pick. Defenseman are at a premium. If another team wants Coburn, they need to pay a premuim, or I'm not dealing him.

I just dont know what Coburn is worth anymore. If they sell now, it will probably be the best they will ever get from him. If the Flyers are to keep any defensemen, which they will, for next season. I would probably go with...
1.Coburn
2.Schenn
3.Streit (based on age)

However, I feel that trading Coburn would fetch the greater return and provide the Flyers with cap relief and a chance to turn the page and look towards the future.

The Flyers would still have the option of trading Coburn in 15/16 when he is an expiring UFA, if he is not re-signed before then. Return is certainly a factor in who to trade, but I have to consider other factors before that. I view Coburn as a player that can be part of the future. None of the young defenseman are a guarantee.
I'd be looking to deal one of Grossmann or Schenn for cap flexibility. I'd lean towards keeping Streit, Coburn, Schultz, and MacDonald.
As always, once a decision has been made to trade a player it comes down to what the deal is. I'd trade any player if I felt it made the team better in the long run.
