Sure, they could probably run out and hire Deboer or Bylsma tomorrow. But I want to wait until spring or summer to hire a full time replacement. If you tie yourself to Bylsma, he's your guy, no matter who else becomes available/interested.

That's not necessarily bad, but it is limiting.

I'm not saying they should hire their long term guy now. Look what the Devils are doing. I wouldn't call that the best option, but it's certainly an option. They could always just throw Homer down there for the remainder of the season.

I still think that if they can Berube before the end of the season, they should make Holmgren coach the rest of the year out. Hell, he built this poop show, let him coach it.

Hells yeah...if Lamorillo can come down out of the ivory tower so can Homer.

Yes, yes it is an option. I suppose they went with that option because an actual clusterfrank behind the bench would be frowned upon.

I recognize the general direction of the thread, but I just don't feel down right now. They got beat Saturday, but are 6-2-2 in their last 10.

Tonight's an important game, but it sounds like Mason could be going. If he is healthy and sharp, and they get a good result tonight, the chase is still on

That's a good claim by Edmonton; they need to start getting guys off their roster who have contributed to that horror show

That's a shame, because panzarottis are usually pretty good.

I just think the Flyers should go in a developmental direction with the team. Berube coaches every game likes it's game 7 of the SC finals. I would rather have a fill in who is going to give more balanced ice time.

Berube coaches to the strengths of every player, but he does it to the extreme.

I like the optimism but they should be nothing but sellers at the deadline. They have a fart in a windstorm chance at winning anything of value in the playoffs.

Sell baby sell. Organic growth to the future.

I think Paajarvi could be a good fit with Coots and Read

He's the one guy I'd consider of the bunch. Maybe Hackett, but he hasn't played since April after getting his knee tore up

Homer has certainly been an NHL coach, so it wouldn't be like he was doing something he's never done before.

That said, I think it's not something I'd like to see.

The only reason I mention it is because he'd be able to base all decisions on evaluation and development. He wouldn't need to coach each game like his career was on the line.

For what? This is NOT a cup team... book my words on that. Even if they make playoffs, they aren't going anywhere.

No.. I'm not a pessimist or a hater.. I'm a realist.

Good size and skills, he's also a LW, where the team lacks depth. Worst case, he comes in and plays poorly, and gets waived again.

Would the hiring of Dave Tippett as coach bring out all the howls of yet another ex flyer nepotism or is he exempt due to short time here ?????

Maybe old man Snider and Comcast were looking at the books and balance sheets without playoff money and tweaked Bergoobie

His deal ends this year anyway and his cap hit is just north of $1m so I don't see any complications. Low risk-medium to high reward.

They'd likely have to shuffle bodies a bit to fit him, send Zepp down and maybe Colaiacovo, but definitely worth it
