Yeah, they sure do suck. Never made 1 good pick in ever. Who's this Sanheim bust after all?
- jmatchett383

yup. not good at drafting and never making one good pick are exactly the same thing. i'm very surprised you would twist the meaning of a post and then reply to that idea that you formulated instead of the actual opinion expressed.

Okay, what's your criteria? They have a better 1st round turnout record than most teams (obviously, Edmonton-types will have a higher % due to draft spot). They contunally find NHL-caliber players no matter where they pick in the first. They have rarely ever had a 2nd rounder. They're adequate to above average at finding players in the 3rd and higher. Sorry ever 7th rounder isn't Wayne Gretzky.

criteria is lack of depth at virtually every position. maybe terrible is overstating it but i don't think they get maximum value out of their draft picks. my post was in reply to the flyers taking goulbourne before the rags selected duclair. of course they make decent picks and they hit the jackpot as often as every other team. i am just of the opinion that the incredible lack of depth is due to many of their picks either not developing or being traded away

Well, no one will defend the Goulbourne or Klotz picks. But that's like saying only Detroit drafted well when they got Zetterberg and Datsyuk in back-to-back years. The Klotz/Goul picks were flat-out bad. But, after the first round, they're just as good at finding players as other teams, and they're one of the best as using the non-draft FA pool (Read, Raffl, Gus, PEB, etc.). They're average overall.

The Commissioner would've then have to explain to you when you selected your 6th pick that McDonagh was already drafted.

Oh come on...like the Oilers would even take a player like McDonagh. Can't-miss superstar Kyle Turris is going there without a doubt.

Edit: Anaheim sucks at drafting because they took Eric Tangradi 1 pick before PK Subban.

That was a pretty nice first three picks by the Habs in 2007 - McDonagh, Pacioretti, and PK Subban.

Hopefully Hextall's approach to the draft will differ than Homer. Obviously 20/20 hindsight makes drafting easy but it was so easy to see picks like Klotz was just ridiculous.
- nastyflyergirl

If Hextall's first draft becomes commonplace, it will be a huge difference from Homer & Clarke. The 2014 class is all skilled guys who skate well (lone exception being Oskar Lindbloom, who needs to work on his skating, but has good skill level)

Oskar Lindbloom I believe spent this offseason working with a skating coach

I'd take Ryan McDonagh twice, too....

I'd put Benn at 6, Pacioretty at 7, JvR at 8, Shattenkirk at 9 then flip a coin between Perron & Alzner at 10...EDIT, Maybe Ben at 5, Couture at 6

Probably would have Simmonds ahead of Alzner and Perron, more I think about it. Not a huge Alzner fan.

He'd be at the top of my list if the Flyers are 12-18
