Watching Canada and all the mobile puck moving defensemen and then there's Morin and he's the Flyers with another shutdown defenseman.

My criteria for Laughton was that he had to be one of the 9 best forwards in camp to get considered.

Even with camp I felt he should have made it. But it just took a little longer for that to happen.

he's not slow.

Wasn't saying he was. Actually was praising his game, especially defensively.

nope. raw bothers me the most.

when you say this, with respect to morin, what does he not do yet that still has him needing A LOT to work on in terms of all of those things? i get most guys need to learn the "feel" at the nhl level, mostly just in the speed of the game and making decisions with and without the puck. but when i read raw, and a guys been playing hockey for most of this life - what doesn't the guy know or have the ability to do? it's not like hockey is that complex of a game or that the position is that complex. not arguing or looking to fight, i genuinely often don't understand the usage of this term because it's generally not backed up with anything specific. can you elaborate?

- hammarby31

From what I have seen of him, he doesn't always read the play well, and takes advantage of his size and mobility to physically dominate smaller players. That also impacts his positioning-sometimes he'll make a wrong read and either get caught in no man's land or caught over pursuing.

He's got a huge shot, but it takes him a long time to get it off. He has to work on developing a better wrist shot or getting his huge slapper off a lot more quickly. Raw is really a relative term. He's where he needs to be for his current level and could probably handle the AHL right now. However, I feel he'd be overmatched at the NHL level, where his size and strength advantage could be more easily mitigated, and his still developing ability to read plays could be a liability given the speed at which the NHL game moves.

From the games I saw, especially at the end, I feel he did enough to earn a spot.

This is camp, and 10 or so games I've seen of his in the Q. It's admittedly a small sample and all on TV/video.

He's got a lot of physical ability and if the Flyers are patient, he could be a very good blue liner for them. I think could easily become a very nasty version of Braydon Coburn in 4-5 years. Maybe not as good a skater, but a more confident, nasty presence that can play a load of minutes and be a highly effective defender

If he can learn and take better angles to plays/pucks the skating can be just "okay" but from what I gather he has been working on it.

Still will never likely be one of his strongest points.
