Rangers win all 4 games in hand they have on Anaheim, they'd be 3 points out of 1st overall

I will be pissed if Hagelin is traded. The guy is a workhorse with unreal speed and will never have an extremely high cap hit. I would rather move on from some of the higher risk/high cap options.

E Staal (Car retains part salary) for Kreider, Miller, Moore?

obviously getting M Staal to agree to sign at a discount in advance.

I just threw up in my mouth a little, he just looks like a shell of his former self and I like the way the depth is forming

I wouldn't trade Hags...his speed creates and also makes the opposition have to play a certain way. He also is one of our best PKers. MSL's leadership is great but his production just isn't there anymore. Leadership is not something we are lacking. Players like Nash, Girardi, Staal, Boyle, Lundqvist, and even now emerging Stepan, McDonagh...they are all considered experienced Vets by now. They've all seen 5 years or more of Playoff Hockey. MSL unless he wants to sign for $3M or less is just not worth the cap hit IMO. Hagelin won't get more than $3M. Zuccarello, is also too valuable to trade. If Zucc finishes the year with 50pts, he'll be slated to get maybe 4.5M - 5M in a new deal. I say we keep the team together minus an aging MSL.

I didn't quite vomit, but no way I give up 3 players under 25, with pretty good upside potential and RFA standing for a 3Oyr old whose decline appears to have begun.

From the moment the Rangers traded for Nash, the team has been about having two all star wingers. The original idea was Gaborik/Nash, now its Nash/MSL. where do you replace the production, even if it is in decline, that MSL brings? He's on target for near 30 goals and 60+ pts and provides a credible threat of secondary scoring after Nash that opossing coaches need to be concerned with, which in turn opens up more room for Nash.

Well you would have to hope that Kreider takes the next step and starts putting up 40-50pts. Then Duclair taking MSL's spot adding another 20-30pts. And other youngsters like Hayes and Miller also increasing their production. All in all, removing MSL's cap hit and production would be for the favor of being able to keep multiple younger players that in theory should equate to and even surpass his total production combined after a year or two of developing. That would make the use of the 4-5M of his cap supposed cap hit more beneficial on the team level. Not to mention also beginning to make room for Buchnevich to enter the team as well. Also, keep in mind that the topic we were talking about was keeping either MSL or Zucc or even Hags. So there is also the production of one of them offsetting the loss too. If we kept MSL over Zucc we would be losing Zucc's 50pts as well.

It's all about asset management though. So for example, if we decide to deal Hagelin and re-sign both MSL and Zuccarello, then we have MSL and Zucc plus the pick or prospect that Hags gets us in a deal. That pick or prospect can be a roster player on an ELC in 2-3 years or it could be used in another trade.

But if we keep both Hagelin and one of Zucc or MSL, then we keep Hags and Zucc/MSL but we lose whoever walks for absolutely nothing. No pick or prospect.

Right now the team just needs everyone firing on all cylinders to be a true contender. Longest current winning streak in the NHL and plenty of guys not currently playing to their full potential: Kreider, MSL, Hagelin, Staal, etc.

Maybe I am misreading your comment but isn't it a good thing that not everyone is firing on all cylinders and they have still won 7 in a row? They are a true contender right now.

I think Hagelin and MSL are playing well. The other I have no argument about.

Canada looks lethal. The Duke will be a 40+ goalscorer for us
Russia had a tough time with the danes and Buchnevich was just ok ...
Nylander is gonna be huge for the leafs, and Vrana is a special talent as well.
Eichel is a beast, but there's not enough talent on team USA to get to the finals imo.

asset management could also be trading zucc because we still have stempniak and duclair to fill that hole. get a pick for zucc, that would be ideal and put duclair with nash and brass
