Look at their top picks from '86 to 2007, and look at how many misses there were. Scary, how bad the scouting and decision making was. 20 (frank)ing years of bad, with a few decent ones sprinkled in there.

Even Bowman from '80-'86 missed on a few picks. The best drafting came from Imlach imo.

I know times were different, but Punch certainly had a plan, stuck to it, and almost built a championship team in 5 years!

I know Gil, Rico and the like were stud picks, but the supporting cast Imlach put around those guys were just as important.

I love, love, LOVE that Murray is a rink rat. It's almost old school in nature.

He seems to have a attitude we have been hoping for in a GM. Lots want improvement right away . I can wait a few years as long as I see good progress. I see that so far since he has been here.

And the candor, with Murray, is so refreshing.

Burke hit it right on the head with Darcy. He certainly spoke a different language.

The simple fact that Imlach got an expansion team into the cup finals in 5 years speaks volumes.

Slight edge to Punch, yes?

Bowman was all about quantity. 6 firsts in a two year span, if I'm not mistaken.

I believe he drafted Cyr, Housley and Andreychuk in 1982.

That show made me seek out other projects that Ian was involved in, but comparing anything else he's ever done against Al Swearengen is just so unfair.
