I hope you're right, but I get the feeling shedding some of these contracts, especially on D, will be easier said than done.
- Tomahawk

I think that all of Coburn, Grossmann, Streit, MDZ, Schultz, and even Schenn are moveable. I don't expect them all to go, but I think any of them could be fairly easily moved at the TDL.

I think one thing they need is a skill guy with grit. Kind of like Simmonds. When Downie first got here it really helped the team and the Couturier line. I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Zack Kassian. He reminds me of a Beleksy type. Plays a very hard game and can move up and down the lineup. Brings that toughness without being so one dimentional.
- J35Bacher

I'd rather see them add a player who is more of a playmaker, and puck carrier for the 2nd line. Having some grit along with it would be great.

Yes, AMac being the most difficult. But I see a "win now" team looking to bolster for a cup run if an injury happens. Who knows maybe you get lucky.

It won't be as hard as some think, teams tend to way overspend at the deadline, especially for D.

Guys like Schultz, CC and MDZ will be easy to move because they are on one year, low salary deals. While CC and MDZ likely won't get you much, someone looking to add depth may part with a late pick. Schultz could likely land them a 3rd from a team looking for 3rd pair help.

Grossmann and Schenn, with cap hits under 4 million, and not too many years left on their deals, will also be attractive to teams. Schenn is still relatively young and a right hand shot, a contender looking for a stay at home type may part with a late 2nd for him and Grossmann could easily land a 2nd from a playoff team.

Coburn, with only 1 year left at 4.5 mil, will be extremely attractive to a contender even though he has been struggling. He has a solid track record and could likely land them a late 1st in 2015 and a 3rd in 2016 from a contender who is desperate to add a top 4 guy with both size and speed.

Streit is the least likely to be moved as his pp skills are unique to the team. Unless they are absolutely convinced that Ghost is going to be able to step right in from day 1 next year and QB the top pp unit (very unlikely), Streit is going nowhere.

AMac, mainly due to the length of the deal more than the dollars, would be the hardest to move. However, a contender with ample cap space going forward, if they are desperate enough, may be willing to part with a late 2nd for him.

I think even if we aren't out of it, Hexy may make a deal or two if the offer knocks his pads off.

No doubt, out of it or not, Hextall knows that this team is NOT a contender and I think he will be open to dealing any of the dmen other than probably Streit, if the right deal comes along.

Yes, fire sale is probably over stating the case. But I expect the defense to look very different next season. And even somewhat different after the trade deadline.
- MBFlyerfan

A lot of whispers of Kimmo Timonen returning during the second half. If we can stay in the playoff, we move one body on D to possibly upgrade at forward. Hopefully a more gritty guy. I'm not ready to give up on the season.

I personally have no interest in moving MacDonald. He's playing solid hockey right now, moving the puck well, and is even getting more aggressive on the puck, and in moving up on the play offensively. Which is an area where I felt he needed to improve. He did have one miscue last night on the one goal last night, where both he and Schenn got to focused on the puck, and MacDonald left the back side uncovered for a goal. Otherwise, he's been playing very well, and is a solid 2 way 2nd pair defenseman for the team moving forward.

They all may be moveable, but unless I'm blown away with an offer, I'd keep Coburn. If he price is right, I'd also look to re-sign Schultz for the 3rd pair. I'd look to move one of Grossmann or Schenn.

I think the guy I would trade right now if Timonen returns is Michael Del Zotto. Not because I don't think he's any good but because he's young, cheap, restricted and still a lot of potential. I just think he'd be the least difficult to move to upgrade somewhere else.

Kimmo would flat out surprise me if he plays in the NHL ever again. I would love to see them make a run, but this squad has a lot of holes.

Truly loved the last two games, and I Hate when they lose.

Be shocked if Timo returned. Blood clots are nothing to (frank) with; I'm not sure he could even get medically cleared.

Until Timonen steps out onto the ice for a regular shift, I'm not taking any of those whispers seriously.

he has been a very pleasant surprise

he is even jumping in on offense every once in a while

did not like his position on the Byfugly goal, but I guess credit Buff for being able to make that move

I think Eklund had something about it in one of his previous posts.

I won't believe any of it until Timonen is actually out there.

If I remember correctly, Timonen was supposed to get retested to see if the clots were still present, after the new year. I have no doubt that Timonen wants to play, and will play if he gets medical clearance to do so. I don't think it's based on any talk of an imminent return.

Also, MDZ needs to stop talking. Considering he was out on the street when the Flyers signed him, I think he needs to kind of STFU and wait his turn:

http://www.philly.com/phi...lack_of_playing_time.html

With that said, I'd like to see him back out there.
