Confidence issues and the mental aspects of the game has been one of the biggest issues with this team this season, especially when they came out of the 5 day break and went into a tailspin. They're showing signs of coming out of it. Hopefully they gain some confidence from this weekend, and continue to get stronger as a team. 5-2-3 in the last 10 is pretty decent. Nice to see Lecavalier contribute. Last night was not set up well for the Flyers, and they could've easily folded, but to their credit, they did not. And credit also has to go to Berube for running the 4th line out there in key situations, recognizing that they had jump in the game.

Phaneuf fights. He's scrapped with Hartnell many times and this is only one example. Byfuglien doesn't fight at all.
- SuperSchennBros

I know he fights. It was about timing of them. When i watched the Leafs game it looked like Simmonds challenged him in the 3rd. Midway point. I was actually thinking it was a good time for the captain to inject some life. Even if the game might have been lost. And I know I am not the only one who thoughtt that. Lots of leafs fans think there are times when Phaneuf could be more assertive at certain times. But he seems to pick moments that aren't really beneficial.

Read was awful last night. Played a terrible game at 5 on 5.

he turned the puck over at the top of the zone that directly led to the jets first goal. he didn't handle the puck well really at any point that i can recall.

LOL

As much as I love the thought of them getting Eichel or MacDavid in the upcoming draft. I would much rather see Couturier, B Schenn, Laughton, Giroux, Jake, and Simmonds continue to up their games in to the higher echelon of NHL players.

This defense.....I think the trade deadline is going to be very interesting regardless of where they are in the standings. I believe Hextall understands that the mix and contract situation of the entire group from 1 to 8 is an untenable position. But the kids for the most part are still too far away to make an immediate impact.

SO he will make some deals.....and try to weather the storm.

In his defense, it should have been called offsides.

Good read Bill. Fell asleep right after the 3rd Jets goal, wouldnt have thought the flyers were gonna come back with the way they were being outshot. Let alone Vinny getting 2 goals to push it to OT

that may be true, but he didn't play the puck well there, and didn't anywhere else for that matter. disappointed because he played well the other night.

I agree, I would much rather see our core forwards continue to develop (Possible 1-2 in the scoring race this year?). I don't want them to tank at the expensve of the current young players on the team. I think you add another couple young wingers/defenders in the draft this year that can begin to develop with some of the D prospects. I can't think of anything that says G/Voracek won't be productive in a couple more years and Schenn/Coots/Simmonds will hopefully continue to get better.

Even if we are close to the playoffs, I think we should aim at racking up a couple more picks for this year's draft through really any of our current D members outside of Streit. Coburn's the first to go on my list since I feel he nets the highest return. A second first this year, even if it's late round, could be huge.

I don't expect a fire sale at any point this season. Where the team is at in the standings at the trade deadline is obviously going to have an effect. I'd expect some changes made, either at the deadline, or around the draft. Have to think they're going to make some room for some of the young defenseman.

Very enjoyable weekend, flyers snatching victory from the jaws of defeat twice.

The leafs play worse team D then even the Flyers and the Jets were missing 4 of their better defenseman. Still it was fun.

VLC credited with 6 shots on goal last night and he had a lot of chances in Toronto as well.

Orange Tank comes off the treads, for now.

Was happy for Zepp. Thinking of all those bus rides he had to endure, and all the toiling he did in foreign countries. Last night is something he will never forget, and if he never wins another NHL game, all his hard work paid off. Before yesterday I had no idea he was 33 years of age. He played pretty well last night, glad the guys rallied and got him a win.

He seems to struggle a lot this year with just handling puck. Lots of passes hit him and it's like he has stone hands all of a sudden.

my oldest was born mid season during the 2010 cup run. i was my typical lunatic self during the playoffs and frightened her so many times with my carrying on in front of the tv. it's amazing she's actually turned into a little fan. i figured i'd scarred her for life.

congrats, buddy.

i thought most of the team handled the puck poorly through the first 2 periods last night, not just read. but yeah, he's struggled in that dept. all season. don't know why.

I think one thing they need is a skill guy with grit. Kind of like Simmonds. When Downie first got here it really helped the team and the Couturier line. I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Zack Kassian. He reminds me of a Beleksy type. Plays a very hard game and can move up and down the lineup. Brings that toughness without being so one dimentional.

Yes, fire sale is probably over stating the case. But I expect the defense to look very different next season. And even somewhat different after the trade deadline.

I hope you're right, but I get the feeling shedding some of these contracts, especially on D, will be easier said than done.

Yes, AMac being the most difficult. But I see a "win now" team looking to bolster for a cup run if an injury happens. Who knows maybe you get lucky.
