I just have no idea why they strung along Franson for years, but Gardiner hits his first RFA contract and they offer him a multi-year deal that their side wasn't even looking for in the negotiating picture.

Could've signed him to a bridge deal like Kadri and pretty much every other D man besides Doughty signs.
