Here is my take on the shootout and feel free to line up and call me stupid.

Most fans who do not like the shootout are either old school, in a losing market when it comes to the shootout and then some do not believe it's a team sport. These I suppose are reasonable arguments. Some may even believe they've been robbed if they lost in a shootout. I'm not sure I feel less robbed if I went to a game live that ended in a 1-1 tie, which I have. It was an empty feeling, even knowing that the league has ended in in ties since forever. For me though, the game always has to end with the puck beating the goalie and landing in the net.

This idea that Ken Holland has been pushing for years of 3 on 3 to me is how this fan base approaches trading for a guy like Evander Kane for Brayden Schenn. Just this very idea of the grass being greener on the other side. As some know I live in Detroit and they are just now complaining non-stop about the shootout on the radio but it has everything to do with the fact they haven't won one in a while. They're whining like losers because they're losing. Two weeks ago it wasn't even thought of as a topic until there most recent skid and the way they've been losing.

I look back at the post thrilling 3 on 3 during the 2012-13 season where the Flyers faced a team I can't even remember but I do remember Carle basically juggling Jagr and Briere in the offensive zone. It was fun to watch but it to me really depends on the players you put out there. I really only believe Giroux, Voracek and one of Streit and MacDonald can be successful in 3 on 3. The other guys might not be skilled enough or fast enough for all the open space.

Nicolas Grossmann, Luke Schenn, maybe even Simmonds and guys lower on the depth chart aren't going to see ice time anymore then they would in a 4 on 4 OT or a shooutout. Plus the shootout conserves time and angry for the players. The league has already stopped Zamboni-ing the ice (For a lack of a better word) so fans can get home, while trying to beat traffic because of complains of staying late. 4 on 4 and then 3 on 3 just keeps them later.

I'm open to change but I think they'll always be another debate just waiting once the change is made.

dude its part of the game like it or not and you cant give away points so easily, simple as that.

That 20% chance at the #1 pick and no lower than 2nd is a nice thought isn't it?
- MBFlyerfan

Ugh. Yeah. I hate it. But the numbers are what they are and it's the stone-cold reality of the hole they dug

We've all been doing this long enough to know that of the most likely outcomes at this moment, you'd sure as hell would rather be Boston, the Rags or the Panthers, and that's not even a question, if you truly want to be talking playoffs

I doubt he's getting fired ... I think the season is his.

I can't pin it down, though ... there's just something about the Chief and his interaction with the team that bugs me.

- FlyerGuy

Don't be so sure....I think the problem is personnel....or lack there of....but it's very telling when a team plays this flat for so long and that they can't put 60 full minutes together....he may not be a bad coach "...but is he the right coach ???? I'm having my mis givings.

The main thing I hate about the shootout is that it creates an extra point out of thin air.

The Flyers are the sum of all parts amassed by Holmgren. We are now paying the piper for the outdated organizational structure the Flyers were under the last couple GM's. Long term locked in deals to fit underneath the cap, trading of picks, nonexistent farm system, etc. Night all.

It sucks. But this is what's right. The Flyers should have to pay for that kind of mismanagement and it's on full display on the ice.

Yeah, it's getting close to the point where it's not how many points out they are, but rather how many teams they have to jump.
- Jsaquella

Yeah. That's exactly it -- somebody's getting points every night. Every night the Flyers don't get two and limit their opposition to none in the Eastern Conference isn't just a bad result for that game, but there are multiple other teams who could be putting the screws to you

This is about as bad as I've seen it at this point of the season, with how many teams they have to get past

I think the Flyers need to work harder at it, no question. I would trade Matt Read for TJ Oshie if the offer was there quicker then I could grab a beer from my fridge. They're both very similar players except Oshie is lights out in the shoot out.
