Works for me, but I don't think Poile goes for it
- BiggE

He probably won't. It hinges not only on how Poile sees Lecavalier fitting in, but also if Laviolette really wants him.

If Lavi goes to Poile and really makes a case for it, I think Poile could buy in. Of course that's just supposition, who knows how badly Laviolette wanted Vinny. Maybe it was more Vinny who felt he could thrive under Laviolette.

To me, it hinges on if anyone truly believes that Lecavalier's gonna retire after next season. Because if he does, then whoever acquires him sheds the remainder of the contract. Maybe you swap mid-to-late picks or ceiling-capped prospects to even it out

Yeah, the bonus due Lecavalier in the beginning of summer's an issue, but who knows what Stalberg's got in his contract that we might not love -- could be backloaded, for all we know

And really, what it boils down to, to me, is this: Sometimes, coaches just don't want guys. If Laviolette just doesn't want Stalberg around, sometimes, because you do have cap room and do need to hit the floor, you just get a guy off your roster and deal with it later

- AllInForFlyers

Lecavalier wanting to retire after next season, is fiction according to the player himself.
Stalberg's salary is 2.5M this year, then 3.5M for the next two years.

Well, they're at least willing to take a chance on moving him to Milwaukee for playing time. If he gets claimed, it's not a great loss.

Taking on Vinny, with what he's shown so far this year, is a crapshoot, even if Lavy might think he'd be a fit somewhere.

- tangent_man

That's the rub.

Vinny really wanted to play for Laviolette, flat out said it was a primary reason he came to Philly. If Laviolette was driving the Vinny bus among Flyers personnel, it's very possible he's cooled on him or is content with what he has.

It's all just supposition at this point. I wouldn't do it if I was Poile & Laviolette.

And again, if Laviolette's just not going to use the player, then eating that salary just might not be something Nashville wants to do

They don't have to deal Stalberg to the Flyers -- again, it was just a hypothetical -- but with them putting Stalberg on waivers, clearly they're not afraid to lose the guy off the roster

There's reasons not to, because of the state of Lecavalier's game, but if they do believe Stalberg's a sunk cost, and if MJL's right about what he's due, then that's a lot of money to eat for a team that doesn't always seem to have a ton of cash flow

Just like the Flyers aren't getting away clean with Umberger and VLC, they're (probably) not getting away clean with someone claiming Stalberg -- but God bless 'em if someone takes that deal straight up

I think the hypothetical part is well understood. The reasons why the Flyers might agree to the hypothetical, is obvious. Why would Nashville take on Lecavalier and risk having to eat more salary, just to avoid eating Stalberg's salary?

It is, the Flyers ability to make the money even might be appealing, I just don't see a need for Nashville. I didn't see one in the summer, either.

Would be an odd move for them to make now, but maybe something they'd consider this summer when all of their C's go UFA (and after VL's bonus is paid out)

Yeah -- doesn't have to be now, but if the Flyers do manage to deal VLC, it's likely going to be something like that

I can't believe this evolved into such an argument.

I said earlier that I thought a Stalberg for VL swap may have worked last summer when the Preds didn't have any C's and Lavi was just hired.

They wouldn't pull the trigger on that deal now. Especially after the excuse of VL being injured has been put to rest. He just stinks.

Once that $2mm bonus is paid, he's only due $8.5mm over 3 years. They Flyers pay that $2mm, and eat a $1mm per year, Vinny's deal is not bad for a budget team

Unless Lecavalier drastically turns his play around, it's also likely going to include the Flyers retaining salary and possibly having to include another asset.

Yeah, this is a group that can argue whether Andrew MacDonald is a 3-4 or 4-5 defenseman for three and a half months. No way a hypothetical Vinny trade doesn't start a bar fight

Vinny with 2 goals tonight in Flyers' win.

Playoff tickets star rolling off the presses.

So silly of me to wonder why Nashville would take on Lecavalier...so silly of me to even question it. I'm such a douche.

I am hoping to see The Cavalier make a difference today.

It seems so stupid, I mean I know he isn't a fit, and can't skate, and has dragged down every line and PP unit he has been on.

And to expect him to do something playing 4th line RW.

But hope springs eternal, even when irrational.

No one wants him to play poorly -- for as much as people talk, I don't believe anyone wants this team to lose

I want them to be rid of that NMC almost as much as anything -- hell, at least Nashville can send Stalberg down
