I would -- Stalberg plays a position that the Flyers have a need, and even if he doesn't play it well, he's a better fit for the Flyers than Lecavalier, who can't play the wing

The Flyers aren't getting off clean for Lecavalier's deal -- they're going to have to do something that isn't going to be palatable

- AllInForFlyers

You think NSH would go for it, tho? They got Fisher back, Ribieros playing well, Olli's playing a defensive role, and that still leaves Roy and Goose in the middle. Kind of crowded from the looks of it. Vinny might end up a winger there, too.

If they think Stalberg's a sunk cost, then yeah -- because if he does clear and you send him down, they've got the same "Umberger Problem" that we do, with an outsized contract that you can only bury $925K of and multiple years left

You do it if you figure you might as well move your problem for someone else's -- and if Vinny really does retire after next season, they save in the long run

Well this is the logical thought but let's continue to dream.

Let's trade a 7th round pick for Shea Weber and once Nashville goes for this, we should be penalty free against the cap. Sounds simple enough.

They've got the cap room to do it, too. The question then becomes 'why would they do us a favor?'

EDIT - forgot about the potential retirement thing. that makes it a little more feasible.

Why would Nashville make that move right now? Is this hypothetical deal a straight up one for one deal? Lecavalier has stated he isn't thinking about retiring anytime soon.

If I really have this much of an effect on your day, that's really sad. How dare I go against those who hate a player as much as I do. It's actually funny. I'm trying to be a positive as any towards the players on this team but because I don't jump on the bandwagon to hate one, I'm the villain.

You're right though, I'm a huge idiot and a douchebag.

Well, if Laviolette feels he can fit Lecavalier into his system and have him be an effective player, who knows?

Obviously they're willing to move Stalberg, maybe if the Flyers even up the salary, they decide to roll the dice.

Even with the Flyers eating as much as $1mm of Vinny's cap hit, trading him for Stalberg and then buying out Stalberg this summer is more appealing than buying out Vinny.

Viktor Stalberg buyout from CapGeek.com

2015-16: $666,667
2016-17: $666,667
2017-18: $1,166,667
2018-19: $1,166,667

And who knows, maybe Stalberg comes in and plays well for the Flyers.

To me, it hinges on if anyone truly believes that Lecavalier's gonna retire after next season. Because if he does, then whoever acquires him sheds the remainder of the contract. Maybe you swap mid-to-late picks or ceiling-capped prospects to even it out

Yeah, the bonus due Lecavalier in the beginning of summer's an issue, but who knows what Stalberg's got in his contract that we might not love -- could be backloaded, for all we know

And really, what it boils down to, to me, is this: Sometimes, coaches just don't want guys. If Laviolette just doesn't want Stalberg around, sometimes, because you do have cap room and do need to hit the floor, you just get a guy off your roster and deal with it later

Well, they're at least willing to take a chance on moving him to Milwaukee for playing time. If he gets claimed, it's not a great loss.

Taking on Vinny, with what he's shown so far this year, is a crapshoot, even if Lavy might think he'd be a fit somewhere.
