Lefty said it best yesterday . We are stuck in no mans land for the next couple of years.

Benning needs to play hardball or sit back and wait 4 more years until all the NTC contracts are over

- VANTEL

I think everyone realizes this, but playing hardball isn't as realistic/profitable/easy as some of us would like to believe.

Pretty much. Unfortunately, Gillis included a complimentary No Trade Clause with every contract signed.

I know he is trying to honour them, but it will be his downfall.

It we score 6 against Dallas they will have 109 GA in only 30 games, that's 298 for the season.
- A_SteamingLombardi

And 22 more goals against than the team that's currently in last place.

Not much different than when Gillis was GM. Same challenges with many of the same players. But I guess Gillis is to blame for the ntc's.

Still would have preferred to spend on top6 scoring than signing Miller, but what ever. Wondering if we can work a trade with the Sharks for Miller in the off season if they don't re-sign Niemi?

Good thing we traded for Spezza and spent money on hemsky instead of D.

Meh. When Chicago didn't honour Huet it I didnt see UFAs refusing to sign in the windy city.

Never hurt the Rangers sending Redding down, why is Vancouver the odd man out?

Hemsky hasn't been bad. Ruff is just an idiot and plays him with players like horcoff. He's spent like no time with Bennguin or Spezza.

Doesn't necessarily look good, but players are still getting paid and there are still players looking for contracts and opportunity, even if it isn't their first choice to sign with whatever team... Miller signed here after the much publicized goalie circus and he wanted to be as close as possible to Hollywood.

Exactly. It means your organization wants to win now. Most players realize GMMG was a clown and signed dumb contracts. Not Bennings fault.

SJ signed two contracts last year and realized it was a mistake they tried to move them also. It is not uncommon. Both were NMC so that is different you cant send them to AHL

There is hedging your bets and then...

Afraid to lose Thornton and Marleau, not sure what is down the road, so sign them and then you are stuck with them.

Toronto a few years ago, stock piling dmen- everyone needs a dmen sooner or later due to injury and they will pay.... Toronto stuck with dmen nobody wants.

Rolling the dice and crappin' out.

Bieksa and Burrows need to be moved before next years start. With their cap space we can get two decent replacements. Also open up roster spots for youth

Who is better than Bieksa for 4.5 or whatever. Yes he is a nightmare when hes not paired with a stay at home dman and I personally hated him for years but his attitude and positivity is irreplacable. Oshould we go get brooks orpik

We don't have any stay at home dmen.

Boychuk would be an upgrade if available.

If we are out of it at the deadline I would try and convince hamhuis the waive as we would get an absolute mint for him but since hes gone down we have sucked so who knows. im glad im not jb

Not a fair comparison. I agree that loyalties are a downfall, but we have to accept it as a reality. No point in female doging about it.

Those guys weren't performing at an NHL level, the Sedins/Burrows are still legit NHL'ers. And they didn't spend years with those teams.

Yep, JB is in a tight spot with the ntc's.

If you had the choice to resign only one of Bieksa or Hamhuis and to a limited ntc, wouldn't it be Hamhuis?

(I'm glad I'm not JB- tough job)

TANEV off the top of my head. Boychuck would be better , Marc Staal. Rangers will be in big trouble next year . They have 23 mil in cap room and have 11 players signed.

They will have UFAs lis Marty StL. Zuccarello MarcStall and need to re-sign Haggelin Stephan and a couple others.

maybe Carolina will not be interested in signing the 4 th Staal seing there were rumors they were trying to trade Eric

Thought Redden's contract played a part in that too. Could prolly have used him in the third pairing but wouldn't have the cap space for what was needed in the top pairing.

Hamhuis over Bieksa is a no-brainer. I hope he asks Bieksa for a list or at least floats the idea to him at the TDL and if he says no or wants to think about it, approach him again a week or two before the draft like Booner suggested. Ditto with Burrows, but I don't see him bringing in much of a return compared to Bieksa so that would be more so just to get out of that contract.
