They are finally on the path of drafting & developing our own picks so we can as often as possible avoid having to make the type of trades to land a Yandle type player.
- ob18

it would be great if they landed yandle like players and less lecavaliers

What the hell are you talking about? The Flyers did not trade 4 first round draft picks for Pronger. Just because Lupul was a player chosen with a first round pick, doesn't mean that the Flyers traded 4 first round draft picks.
- MJL

I'll make it easy for you to follow:

Flyers get Chris Pronger and Ryan Dingle from Anaheim for...

Joffrey Lupul (7th pick, FIRST ROUND, 2002 draft),
Luca Sbisa (19th pick, FIRST ROUND, 2008 draft),
2009 FIRST ROUND pick,
2010 FIRST ROUND pick.
and a conditional THIRD ROUND pick in the 2010 or 2011 draft.

See how easy that was?

So if you still believe Lupul was not a first round pick, well then, you'd be wrong.

Do we have a 2nd round pick this year?

Yeah, but Boston is going to use it

Off the top of my head, the Phoenix Coyotes were a well oiled machine under Dave Tibbetts' defensive system and with Ilya Bryzgalov in net. At the same time, I'm sure Keith Yandle was very much hidden in defensive situations. Maybe not all but most.

pretty unlikely that they hid their top defenseman

and when he did he was a lot better, youre also underestimating his outlet passing and i think youre falling into the trap a lot of ppl here fell in with matt carle.
- JoeRussomanno

I'm not at all underestimating his puck skills or his offensive abilities. He is one of the top offensive defenseman and PP specialists in the League. As I said before, I'm not paying the price that I think it's going to take for that kind of player. He is not an all situation defenseman. I'd rather keep the young player assets, and stick with Mark Streit, then trade for Yandle. Not the kind of player we need in my opinion.

Exactly. Dumb. Laughton has been one of the team's most effective forwards over the last 10 games or so. Benching him for a guy who was benched for basically showing the effort of a potato is stupid.

End of the world? Nope. By I guess those that yell hyperbole miss the irony when they're guilty of it.

- Jsaquella

Yes but when listening to Berube's comments of bringing back Lecavalier includes more ice time, more offensive situations and putting him back at center, I have to ask myself what's going to change. I also named Bellemare and Vandevelde as possible candidates to sit, however Lecavalier in my opinion isn't a fourth liner nor will see any kind of offensive success on the fourth line.

He wasn't used much on the PK, but he was the leading defenseman in terms of ice time. To say he can't be an adequate defensive player is a bit much, but he's definitely not a shutdown guy that can be counted on to play all roles.

I think he's more complete than Streit. Dean Lombardi is a big fan of Yandle's, too. That speaks volumes to me, because Lombardi's a good talent evaluator.

I'm not debating whether or not Lupul was drafted in the first round, I'm debating what the Flyers traded for Pronger. If you think the Flyers traded 4 first round picks for Pronger, well then, you'd be wrong. And that's pretty easy to follow

Like I said previously, if we're going to use your terminology, we should trade Luke Schenn and get a great return, because he's a 5th overall pick.

In my view, if Lecavalier is going to play on the 4th line, then might as well keep him in the press box.

And I noted that I agreed with sitting VandeVelde.

But sitting Laughton, right now, for Lecavalier, is stupid, given how well Laughton has played.

I really don't think Lecavalier will have as much offensive success or create as many chances as Laughton has been on the line with Schenn and Simmonds. That's the bottom line, to me.

In part, sort of... The Isles flipped the 2nd rounder we gave them for MacDonald, along with another 2nd and a 4th.

thats what i meant, after i posted my question i had the absolutely brilliant idea of looking it up myself. and in the process i was reminded that when you are the master of the salary floor as garth snow so eminently is, you can on occasion pilfer solid players from other team's rosters.

i was also reminded that buffalo now has 3 picks in the 1st round next year.
