Different roles anyway. At the time Malholtra was acquired to be a 3rd line centre who contributes offensively while Nichols was just supposed to be a marginally used 4th line pest.

I for one was glad we didn't re-sign Malholtra. On a team where so many players are unfairly criticized for their playoff performances, he actually had one of the worst I can remember. He had 33 points in 71 regular season games (0.465) but then only 1 point in 15 playoff games (0.067). Usually Sharks tend to have a bad round or two but make up for it with others... this guy was bad in all three.

And it wasn't just one season either. From 2008-09 to 2011-12, he had 116 points in 298 regular season games (0.398) but had only 1 playoff point in 30 playoff games (really bad).

Don't know about 7 straight but both this year absolutely. Out shot 2-1 in both games and got stellar goaltending.

Marleau has been totally disrespected IMO with his time with the Sharks, guy is a great player and he take all the heat. He's the real Captain of the Sharks, letter or no letter.

Like I said talking crap about a Sabres team that was supposed to be god awful is pointless especially since they are on a 10-4 streak in their last 14...
