I find Mike Yao crying about penalties funny when his team was rewarded a penalty shot on a play that didn't deserve a penalty shot. Nino make more of an effort to sell the penalty than finish the play. The ref decided that call too early.

Need to see the replay again PE. I thought the same at first. Hossa's hand gets his left skate which made it look like a dive. It was the right call.

Don't know about being a Norris candidate but Seabrook is a winner, a great team player and a guy who really brings it when it counts. Horses like him are almost impossible to find in the NHL.

And there will be other guys on this team going out the door long before Stanbo lets Seabs go.

Cordell's take on Morin:

"Jeremy Morin played a little less than 13 minutes but I felt he was very good in his debut with the Jackets. He had a couple shots, four hits and created a few good chances for his linemates; including a gorgeous pass coming from behind the net to Nick Foligno in front. Morin also gained Detroit's line with control of the puck regularly, and overall played a strong 200-foot game"

Sounds like he finally got Q's message and is applying it in a nother organization.

For whatever reason 2nd round pick was just too much to give.
- MjulQvist

Don't forget that was a low 2nd in one of the weakest draft classes maybe ever. Not a bad gamble, in my opinion, to trade that slot for a guy who at least had made it to the NHL and filled an organizational need.

Shaw 0-8 on draws. Wow. Small issue, but this will haunt the Hawks in post-season when every possession counts. I wish they'd move him to wing where he belongs.

Wouldn't be the first player that has happened too. Hell, Jimmy Hayes does stop and starts now in Florida instead of his aircraft carrier turns he did when he was here,

Cordell's assessment of a "strong 200 foot game" might be a little different than Q's

He is also in a different role there where him being able to be in a more offensive-orientated line allows him to play better naturally, as opposed to a bottom 6 role where he is required to be more defensively responsible than contributing offensively

Yes I've heard that. And that trade wasn't big risk move for Hawks but I don't know if it was necessary? I remember 2002 entry draft was said to be one of the weakest too.

Watched last night's game from Chattanooga on NHL Game Center, so was able to see all the other scores throughout the game. Some stuff from last night:

- Kings took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period in STL, then gave up 3 goals in 2:30 in the middle of the 3rd, plus an empty netter to lose to the Blues 5-2. The Kings were out shot 8-1 in the 3rd period. Not sure what's up in LA, but they suck right now.

- Think the Blackhawks had a good 2nd period last night? The Coyotes out shot EDM 27-5 in the 2nd period. Arizona has beaten the Oilers 4 times this season.

- The Bruins, who are also teetering on the edge of the playoffs, went into the 3rd 1-1 in Nashville, traded goals with he Preds in the 3rd, then lost in the shootout. I'm sure Bruins fans are pleased they traded Tyler Seguin.

And Rundblad will never be more than a 6th defenseman in the NHL. Bad with the puck, weak around contact, and WTF was he doing taking a puck down below the goal line in the 3rd with a 3-1 lead? His bad decision lead directly to the breakaway and penalty shot.

So all of a sudden after 3 games Dahlebck is an NHL regular more deserving than Rundblad and others? I wasn't overly impressed with what I saw out of him. My guess is the Hawks sent him back to Rockford with a list of things to work on, much like they did with Clendening. He will work hard on that and come back a better defenceman.

And Rundblad would not clear waivers - it might be time for you to watch some other games and check out some of the defenceman that play on teams like the Oilers, Stars, Carolina and Sabres.

- RickJ

K Champ whatever, your opinion, that's cool.

Mine is Rundblad looks like he doesn't belong in the NHL, guess we'll agree to disagree. I have higher aspirations than guys on the Oilers, Stars, etc.

You people are never fricking happy. I see Runblad is the whipping boy dujour.

Some guys need to play to be effective. When he was playing more regularly early in the season, he seemed better with every start. I think he's fine, and will probably get better with more minutes.

- Ogilthorpe2

Rundblad doesn't deserve more minutes and won't get any unless a rash of injuries or proves to better than Erixon. Soft on defense and can't pass well most of the time. A 2nd rounder was too much to give even though they ate some salary.

On this team he is a #8-9 dman and at least two guys playing in Rockford are about as good with less experience.

Seabs would be wearing the "C" on many teams in the NHL if he were not with Chicago.
- powerenforcer

I remember when he was drafted, the analysts on TV said he was the future Captain of the Hawks. He will be wearing the "A" next year if Sharp becomes a cap casualty.

Yeah, but they may need him next year, on a low cap hit, when Roszival and Oduya are gone.

He's been on how many teams so far?

My point is Rundblad is an extra-extra-extra defenseman unless he improves.
But to be clear another dman would have to be acquired rather than for one to be dumped now.

There is no telling when TVR will be back or how long it will take him to get back close to the same level of play.

If Bowman doesn't feel an Ice Hog is ready he may look to acquire another dman possibly, because you may need one more down the stretch or in April.

He will never admit it but I think Stanbo has a secret ambition to acquire every defenceman drafted in the 1st round of the 2009 draft. He's had Leddy, Olsen and now owns Rundblad and Erixon.

All he has to do now is pickup Ekman Larsson, Cowen, Kulikov, John Moore and Ryan Ellis.

Apart from Ekman Larsson, those names just tell you how long it takes to develop an 18 year old into a bona fide NHL defenceman.

Rundblad is just a filler for a long season because a team needs at least 8 defenceman. Come playoff time he will be in street clothes or somewhere else. Until then, he's adequate, especially at the price point.

>A few random thoughts from last night
>Hawks are much more effective when "attacking in layers"
>Shaw with a ton of flybys especially in his own zone -- his line seemed pinned-in a lot -- Shaw needs to bring some "stop and start" into his D game
>Sharp brought it when he came back, but looks very replaceable with his current effort shift to shift -- lots of coasting in his game
>Versteeg is playing great but needs to look for Richards more in the Ozone -- had him open for a good shot a few times but forced the puck to Kane who never got it cuz the Wild intercepted
>Liked Dahlbeck when he came up, but the NHL game seemed to get too fast for him as he played more games
>We'll see if bottom pairing Dmen can handle the pace and decision-making needed at the NHL level

I am not one to crap on players on this roster, but I am really starting to lose my patience with Runblad. It is becoming scary every time he is out there, especially when paired with Rozsival.
I'm wondering if anyone would even claim him now if exposed to waivers? Maybe it is time to take a chance and do that and bring up someone more worthy of a chance to play (Brennan?)?

- 67hawks

Brennan? Seriously? Have you ever seen him play? If you find it scary to have Rundblad on the ice, then (to paraphrase the movie Crazy People) "This move won't scare you, it will (frank) you up for life."

Actually I subscribed to hockey streams and watch all the Ice Hog games unless the Hawks are playing at the same time.
So, yes I have seen Brennan play and he is more prominent than the other defencemen that we have called up when I see them side by side.
