My fear is Mason will have nervous breakdown soon playing behind this team.
- BiggE

When is the soonest this team can put this year in the back mirror and start looking to next?

Just some thoughts that hit me last night.

- Coburn should be traded at the deadline. I understand what he does here but I think he could bring value back to help this team moving forward. I would almost rather take a chance trying to get Bogossian from WPG. i know the injury history but he at least has the top pairing skill set.

- I hope to see Ryan White play Thursday. This tem has no nastiness in their game. White has some skill and can skate. Vandevelde is providing nothing at this time.

- I think moving Read at the deadline to try and get a more skilled and younger winger would be a good idea. I know MJL thinks Read has too much value here to move but at this time the Flyers need to upgrade skill. Read has value to a playoff teams and contenders. A bubble team can move him if it helps upgrade the teams skill. Also I think with Laughton, Couturier, Rinadlo, White, Raffl, Giroux, Bellemare there are enough penalty killers to take his minutes on PK.

- I hope Hextall is looking for smart trades. I saw Columbus and Buffalo swaped ome prospects. Low risk possible solid reward move.

- MacDonald can be moved. I defended the move last year but now he just seems to give you really nothing. I would rather get Del Zotto in there as he at least brings a much needed skill set.

You might agree or disagree but just some things i thought about last night

Agreed on almost all points. I'd like Bogosian, but the combination of contract and injuries is worrisome. If they can trade MacDonald, I'd be more interested in Bogo. I just doubt they can trade AMac.

December 21st or 23rd. If they lose to Florida & the Leafs, they will need to win out in December. After those two games they have the Jets & Wild. If they lose to FLA & TOR, and then drop either of those & they're pretty much toast

This D is so slow... there has to be something better on the phantoms and you know you are in trouble when Bobby Taylor says you are a slow team

Tampa has more talent. There's no getting around it.

Did you notice how their D can push the play and how fast Tampa plays, in general?

I'm guessing the Flyers would have beaten quite a few teams playing, even as they did last night.

The Flyers weren't bad. They just don't have the talent to hang with Tampa and the better teams.

- johndewar

I'd agree that the Flyers weren't bad overall, but I also wouldn't say that they were good. They didn't stink up the place like they did against the Rangers, but they didn't play with the push that they should've had, especially in the 2nd period. They came out flat in that period. They were sloppy with the puck overall in the game. This was a situation that set up well for the Flyers and they didn't take advantage of it.

I agree. The Bogossian thing is more the you know he has the skill set. The injuries just seem to hit him. Other then that his contract wouldn't be bad if he played a full season. I would probably still take a chance on him. Unlike when we trade for Schenn it's not the skills you question it is more of the injury thing.

Also I would really look into getting the rights to Burmistrov. I have read reports he wants to come back to NHL next season and with the KHL funding problem i think it would be worth the risk to get his rights this season. I think Burmistrov would be an upgrade on the wing for Couturier's line as he has skills and plays a two way game for a russian.

You know my thoughts on Read, so I won't get into that, but curious as to the MacDonald comments. He had a really strong game last night. For a team that as a whole struggled with the puck last night, he moved the puck quickly and efficiently. His coverages were sound, and he played really well last night.

Agreed. It might even be better to carry Lecavalier for a couple years, if they can't deal him

I'd only move Coburn at the deadline if a contender is willing to give up at least a 1st

Nope, there isn't. Manning is a marginal NHL prospect. Lauridsen is a non-prospect who is most likely heading back to Europe next season. Alt and Hägg aren't ready for the NHL, although perhaps Alt could come up at some late point this season. I don't think Pettersson is going to be an NHL player. Flemming, Delisle, etc., are strictly minor leaguers. Ghost is injured.

Tough call
Giroux & Voracek give the Flyers the edge now, but I'd rather have their prospects, 2015 picks and cap situation by far

- BiggE

So the Flyers present is better (though they sit a point behind Buffalo)but the Sabres have a brighter future?

Well coming off a loss, Coach Face Punch is going to spin that wheel baby!

Look for Del Zotto back in the lineup for L. Schenn, maybe White for Velveeta.

MacDonald is an OK defender. But his contract pays him to be better then ok. He played OK last night. I just think you can upgrade what he does for less money. Hell I think Del Zotto was giving you more then MacDonald and Del Zotto also brings an element that is needed on this team(puck moving defenseman who can join the rush)

Watching the breakout last night was like watching a bad cover band try to play a song out of their league. It was sloppy, and horrible to watch. If you cant complete a wide open pass in your own zone you may as well just blow it up.

Its the Final Countdown for this team.

Bill,

How is Alt progressing since coming back from injury? I agree that I think he will be up with the big club after the TDL.

He's more then an okay defender, his D zone coverage is very strong. He rarely blows a coverage. And he was much better then okay last night. In a game where the Flyers were very poor overall with the puck, he handled and moved the puck very strongly and efficiently. Del Zotto has not been playing well lately, and has not been using his skill set to push play, and to exert himself offensively. That's why he finds himself scratched.

Pretty sure, unless something greatly changes... There was an article a week or two ago where he announced his retirement. He said about how his health takes priority over hockey, as much as he loves it.
