I like Yandle and understand where you are coming from.

He really pushes the play and is IMO exactly the kind of guy they need, but they would be creating some big holes to get him.

I am OK being patient and sucking this year and likely next year and trying to build it up through the draft, but I do think Yandle would make this team a lot better now.

I I was paying for season tickets I might be less patient and push more for a deal to get him.

maybe theyll take mcdonld?
- JoeRussomanno

Why? 5 and half seasons left at $5mm for an average, run of the mill defenseman.

Sorry, I'm not seeing MacDonald be a key piece of a trade to upgrade. He's a guy you might be able to dump for a pick. He's not terrible, but he's not worth his cap hit or remaining term.

It should be telling that the Isles, the team that drafted & developed him, wasn't going higher than 4 years/$16mm for him...and they had a desperate need for solid defensemen.

Lightening bring out all the worst aspects of this Flyers team

Outside those bad giveaways in the beginning, I just don't think the Flyers played THAT badly.

Tampa is a faster, quicker team that the Flyers and consistently beat them to pucks and really didn't let the Flyers get any speed through the neutral zone.

I really never expected them to win this game if I'm being honest.

Berube would probably just bench him and give even more icetime to Grossmann.

You can make a long list of alternatives to trading for then, subsequently, signing MacDonald to that contract.

sounds like posters here contemplating certain trades of current flyers
- JoeRussomanno

Every fan overvalues their own players. I'm sure GMs do too. They have the luxury of shopping their players and getting the real value though.

Theres a fine line between being too patient and not patient enough. Would you say Kane, Bogo and Byfuglien have more trade value now or 1-2 years ago?

I've watched him play enough. We have Gostisbehre hopefully ready to do the same things hopefully minus much of the negative stuff. Yandles turnovers are of the ridiculous variety. I get he handles the puck a lot, but my God I've seen the jaw dropping poop he tries in his own end I would want Ghosts eyes sown shut if he had to see that.

Well enough to be -30 over the past two seasons. Why we'd want to trade BSchenn+ for the privilege of having Yandle and Streit on the same team is beyond me. We need a two-way guy for the first pairing like Kimmo was for all those years.

The Flyers should have been able to push the play offensively, and generated more against the Lighting, with the situation. They came out flat to start the 2nd and payed for it.

Yandle is not the right type of player to add, when you already have Streit.

I'd be fine with Yandle or similar at the draft, depending on what else they can do.

Tampa didn't push the offense though off a back to back. They knew 2 was likely enough, and if it somehow wasn't they'd just go and get 3.

That is what I don't understand about MJL's defensive of him. He is average. Would we really be any worse right now if we rolled out Del Zotto or Manning or Alt over him. ould his money not be better used getting a better winger for Couturier if we wanted to get him more offensively oriented.

Might be slightly worse, in the case of MDZ. Its not really ripping MacDonald. It's the contract he was given. If he's making Grossmann or Schenn cash, you can be happy with him.

He's actually 4th in Corsi Rel QoC and is getting 53.5% OZ starts. 7th on the Lightning, but a number any Flyers dman other than Streit would love to get.

I didn't include Brewer because he's no longer on the team.

War On Ice has Carle listed as 2nd against QoC. I imagine Hedman sees quite a few top pairings based on the amount of Ozone starts he's had this season. That probably boosts his level of competition.

Yeah, relative to past performances against Tampa, they played with the puck quite a bit. You could tell Tampa wasn't giving max effort and were probably running on E... even still, they owned the Flyers blue line and the home plate scoring area.

It's just not a good matchup, even under the best of circumstances.

Qoc based on TOI tends to be more informative than Corsi QoC/Corsi Rel QoC.

With the Lightening it only takes one give away and they get an A+ scoring chance.

Flyers typically give away the puck many times a game.

The first period I thought the Flyers were good, maybe even the better team. But still the Lightening had 2 near misses that should have been goals, even while being outplayed.

The 2nd period they skated circles around the Flyers, who were standing around and watching.

The third period Tampa sat back and shut it down, being on the road and playing 3 games in 4 nights.and still were getting odd man rushes against Mase.

They are in another league compared to Philly right now.
