The issue is not coaching, it is management. The first mistake was not getting a hard-ass coach who has a track record of developing young players.

Eakins is not a bad coach, he was just not the right coach for this team. And I am not sure if there is a right coach for this team, as the roster currently exists.

Why do I feel another mistake is on the way... Messier? Or something along those lines.

I LOVE all the rumours of messier coaching Edmonton lol no chance in hell. 1000000% and trust me I know. Whenever someone mentioned the oilers the first thing popped in my head was always 80s dynasty. And now forever more , all that will pop in everyone's head is this pathetic franchise that they have become. All the years messier and Gretzky put into this team had now been tarnished by crybaby Hall and his 45 pound center man. And his defense that is afraid to go into the corners with fear of getting hit and crying. There's No way a class act man like messier will associate himself With those spoiled bums

they have already adjusted the odds largely due to the Oilers tanking...also next year its a lottery for the first 3 picks

The Oil didn't tank. They were put together by Management beginning with forwards, not D & G, so they simply sucked. Hiring a rookie Coach & GM to handle Lowe's mess was & is a horrible mistake...more to come.

Paul Fenton is the best asst GM in the league imo. He's done a tonne of work with the Preds team in the draft and through trades/FA alongside DP. If Lowe or Katz or whomever makes these ultimate decisions don't see the problem isn't (just) coaching and MacT needs to be removed, then there is no hope for this team. Maybe Lowe needs to go first since he doesn't want to fire his ol' buddy. But I think Fenton is the best available man for the job to turn this disgrace of a team around. Otherwise, overly talented young players will just keep being thrown into this soup and be asked to turn it into a soufflé.

*I'm not sure where he got it but my uncle used to say "you can't turn soup into a soufflé."
