As crazy as my idea is I could see the NHL stepping in here and saying Edmonton forfeits their 1st because how many #1 picks they have had as well as top end #1 picks and 9 years later Edmonton is still in a pile bs. Hell the NHL is changing their draft rules because of Edmonton. So I can see the NHL not wanting McDavid or Eichel in Edmonton. Thats sad.

Also since Edm was not getting far value in a trade package here is a bit better package for them

Edm gets a number 1 goalie in Enroth, They get a Top pair of defensmen. We take over an expiring contract in Petry and a bad contract in Nikitin. We also get Eberle and Edm 1st because lets be honest, McDavid Or Eichel. And lets be honest here, Neither McDavid or Eichel will help save this team. The team lacks Defense and goaltending no scoring power. Also with 2 later round firsts they can pick up some more defensemen in the draft. And Drew Stafford is just a throw in to replace Eberle on the wing.

No they changed the rules because of the Sabres selling off everything and tanking.

The oilers never tanked. Just sucked.

they have already adjusted the odds largely due to the Oilers tanking...also next year its a lottery for the first 3 picks

Not even Mike Babcock could fix this team with the current roster. Eakins' lack of experience may not have helped, but it definitely wasn't the main reason.

This. The problems with that organization start at the top and run deep.

Although maybe the next coach will be able to convince the players not to stand right next to each and leave guys completely open to score five feet away. That would be a start.
