yea that's my understanding. Getting fired you collect the remaining contract like a severance. You aren't contractually obligated to the team anymore, but they continue to pay you because they have essentially broke the contract.
You don't have to be "released" to coach and make money for another team.

Who the hell would want to coach this trainwreck of a team?

The issue is not coaching, it is management. The first mistake was not getting a hard-ass coach who has a track record of developing young players.

Eakins is not a bad coach, he was just not the right coach for this team. And I am not sure if there is a right coach for this team, as the roster currently exists.

Why do I feel another mistake is on the way... Messier? Or something along those lines.

Yeah are you forgetting the part where Mact said " make no mistake about it. Coaching is under review"

Mactavish should have been fired, not Eakins. It's the responsibility of the GM to provide the coach with a team to work with and Mactavish failed miserably. Defence is probably the worst in the league, goaltenders are just average, and the forwards are to young with little to no depth. Grade: F
They need a real GM if they really hope to improve.

You obviously don't watch them. They are holding teams to limited goals against most nights. They can't score.

This team takes the thought of being good to your Alumni to the extreme. Look at the GM's, Coaches and Asst coaches they have had, and still have. They need to get rid of them all from hockey operations and coaching postitions as they are not qualified..........honor them yes, march them out for face-offs etc......do not keep giving them the keys to drive the ship! The "old Oilers" have had their chance, they failed miserably. Time to clean house!

This season's been toast for weeks. At this point, they might as well have kept the pushup king at the helm. He's almost halfway through guiding them to a guaranteed top-2 pick.
