Not an exciting game in any sense, but coming away with the win means a 3 game win streak, so I'll watch til I pass out.

Well yeh because I'm not an overly emotional douche in my fandom. I've read these boards since the 04-05' lockout, and I can't count how many times I've read you denounce the team/franchise, refer to them as pathetic losers, and announce you were done watching games/posting comments for the year, only to be back the next day. It's hard to even think of you as a fan.

Maybe try avoiding the internet during games.

I've endured enough misery from this organization to say whatever the F I please, don't like it too bad, like I've said before go join one of those facebook fan pages where criticism is taken like blasphemy, glad they won, got the 2 points but they played a poorly executed game, they beat a good Canucks team 5-1 and a bad Oilers team 2-0, it honestly didn't look much different from the game at MSG other than the Rangers defense being much tighter, too many unforced turnovers

you would a think a team with 9 thousand first overall picks would play a little more wide open style.

what in God's name are they doing in Edmonton?

2 points is 2 points, move on to tomorrow

they gotta dump Eakins.

With so many offensively gifted players, on that ice surface, to be playing that system is borderline criminal. They miss Pouliot though, he was the best player in the game at MSG by a mile.

That team is such a mess. When we dominate games, we typically outwork and outhustle the otherteam. The team that puts in more work, hustle, and heart typically wins the puck battles, gets to the loose pucks first, and gets the bounces. That then leads to success.

But the oilers lack any heart, character, leadership, or identity. There leaders are 22 year old kids that have only experienced losing in the nhl. And can you really blame a guy like hall for not hustling every single shift, finishing every check, blocking shots, etc if his season is basically over every november? They're just going through the motions.

I went to bed after the 1st so I didnt see that. You're right though, hall is one of the few players that cares. He was a bad example.

Yeah, right, except for the Canucks game. Probably cause other than that game its been a rollercoaster. Good one period horrible the next. Canucks game was probably the most complete game since the Pitt game way back whenever.

Would be huge to string together a 6 or 7 game win streak here and take advantage of the games we have in hand. The flames are on a 5 game losing streak, then back to back against the canes who aren't a playoff team, caps who are a team we've more or less dominated over the past few years and a struggling devils team. The points are there for the taking.

Looking even further ahead we then have a stars team who are struggling but are very dangerous followed by florida and buffalo who should be another couple wins. Really light schedule for the rest of the year before a west coast trip that has us play the ducks, kings, and sharks.

Love reading all the post-game comments on how the Rangers are known for blocking shots and that's what they did last night? The OIlers slowed the pace to a crawl and basically just sat there waiting for a mistake, making the contest a slog-fest.. When they entered the zone, most of the shots were from bad spots, enabling the Rangers to block them. Plus, do they even realize who now coaches the team and the style played?

Yup, you would think with this schedule coming up, the Rangers could hopefully put some distance from the teams below them and catch up to some of the leaders. Its just going to get harder towards the end of the year.

Didnt see that Jan. I just thought it was a combination of the Rangers tired from playing the night before and the Oilers concentrating a little more on defense. Also the ice didnt look all that great, pucks bouncing players on both teams falling all over the ice. Nobodys fault really, just the perfect storm of bad hockey.

Oilers coach Dallas Eakins praised the Rangers last night saying that the Rangers defense made it hard for his team to get to the net and as a team “they played an incredibly responsible game and blocked so many shots. (Oilers)

The Rangers blocked 21 shots last night and only allowed 16 on goal. The Oilers also missed the net 13 times.

Eakins added that there wasn’t much speed on either side and at times the game came to a standstill and also had the feeling of “watching paint dry.”(Oilers)

Oilers captain Andrew Ference said that the Rangers did what they do well, block shots, and they are a tough team to play against with a “world class goalie.” (Oilers)

Jordan Eberle said that the Rangers are known for blocking shots and that is what they did. (Oilers)

I would think that the last thing the rangers wanted to do last night was get into a run and gun game with the oilers. They definitely played smart, high percentage hockey. Not safe or defensive hockey like the oilers did. You combine those 2 factors and you have a recipe for a trap game.

Those comments weren't really negative at all. Basically saying "the rangers are known for being a great defensive team with a world class goalie and they played to their identity."

I was thinking not so much a run and gun, but very similar to the Canucks game. Great forecheck, lots of speed and a significant amount of time in the offensive zone. Take advantage of the Oilers defensive problems. Basically keep them pinned in their own zone, they are too tired to effectively use there speed. I don't know, I honestly didn't think it was a strategy, just bad hockey. At least that's what it looked like on tv.
