Did you ever get to seeing Trapped Under Ice? They were so (frank)ing good with their first 2 albums but got into the Terror trap too... needed to make money.

I was never into them (I gave up on hardcore around 2010 or so for the most part) but my younger brother in law was. I saw them at TIH 2 years ago, and they were fantastic live. The entire place was a madhouse that my old man self wanted no part of. I always heard their live sets were better than their albums.

TUI was going strong back in 2007ish. Their earliest album sucked in recording quality but was amazing live. Their last album sounded really poppy recorded, but was actually kind of awesome live. Funny they were able to pull it off.

Yeah. I did get to live in the heyday of American Nightmare. Those first 2 albums...my God! They were the craziest band I've ever seen. Kids diving off of balconies. No Justice was up there too. And the immortal E-Town Concrete (and Turmoil). So many great/terrible memories.

I would have liked to have gone to some early Hatebreed shows. I heard they could get pretty violent. I came into hardcore right when it had just peaked past its most violent. There was a crew (not gonna name names) that just waited for one of them to get bumped into and then rolled on poor kids. My friend's band had the unfortunate circumstance that that crew had it out for them. Made for an interesting last show and a dash to a running car.

haha, sounds like No Warning. The EP and Ill Blood are two fantastic albums. Ill Blood could almost be called a "defining" album in hardcore. Then they put out a pop punk album and toured with Sum 41.

"Back in the day" no one knew about hardcore unless you knew someone who was into it. It's a lot more mainstream now. I graduated high school in 2001, and there were maybe 5 kids in the entire school who listened to the same bands. Then, I guess due to Rancid and Hatebreed amongst others, the whole punk/hardcore scene got "cool," and it just is really different now.

Read - Couturier - Voracek
Schenn/Raffl - Laughton - Simmonds
Umberger - PEB - Rinaldo

Here is my mindset and most of you, if not all of you are gonna hate it.

Schenn/Raffl-Giroux-Lecavalier
Raffl/Schenn-Laughton-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Rinaldo-Bellemare-Umberger

Giroux and Voracek have undeniable chemistry but they're both play-makers with great vision on the ice. They should be able to set up not only each other but their teammates. Play-making could be exactly what's missing among the secondary scoring. Now I know most are sour on Vinny but in my scenario at least he gets a fighting chance to live up to his deal. If he can't do that, then there is absolutely nothing we can do for this guy. I know many will look at that top line and say he hasn't earned it. It hasn't worked out in the past. Realistically though that was 13 months ago. Lecavalier was able to get a hat trick with that opportunity and Raffl just beginning his career at the time was very mediocre during the start of his career. Heck, Max Talbot was still here. In this case, you give him the ball and see if he can run with it. If he can't, Berube can't say he didn't try it here and now. In the case Giroux also adopts 2 wingers who have no excuse but to drive/crash the net at every opportunity. I like your idea as well. You can't knock the guy without at least seeing if he can come back and play with a chip on his shoulder.

I think they'd be good live, but jaded old man me just doesn't like "new" hardcore. I mean, they're doing their thing, and that's cool. But I like to older style of hardcore, the less metal stuff. It really seems like American Nightmare is a clear-cut definer in a shift in hardcore music, because they basically told bands they couldn't beat them playing the same stuff, so it seemed to cause a shift in styles.

Last time I saw TUI they were still touring with HC bands like Take Offensive and Backtrack. They've split up into two different bands for now Angel Dust, which I don't care for and Turnstile, which I think is really good.

Well, I think it's the kinds that grew up listening to thrash are now wanting to make their own music.
Take a look at Power Trip who's a hardcore band from TX they've been my hidden little gem for years but more people are starting to notice them:

It's just so weird. I mean, Mark Porter from Floorpunch drove to a show just to punch Duncan Barlow from "By the Grace of God." There was an incident in Philly where Ezec from Madball (I think it was him) punched some dude so hard he literally went flying backwards down a flight of steps. poop like that just used to happen, someone would get banged up bad, and it was done, and no charges ever got pressed. I understand times needed to change, but it's just weird that it's so super safe now.
