Using either of them in a trade is a bit scary unless you're getting a better Defenseman back. There's nothing worth anything in the pipe behind them, so you're really cutting out the small bit of depth you have at the position.
- HonkFortheGoose

Depth can be replaced when you have a top 4 that we have currently. I use one of them and draft at least one more in the first or second rounds this and or next year.

2 first AND 2 roster players (one being a good young d-man) for Skinner? No thanks, he misses too much time. The kid is good, but he never seems to be healthy.

I feel like this would be the offer required. Maybe you could propose a tweak to lessen it a bit? 1 first, 1 second?

I'm tainted on the trade overall, I couldn't offer what Carolina would ever consider since I don't like his injury history.

They're becoming a winning team and their prices are/have been going up from what I've been told.
- dadeadhead

We usually stub hub them, so we've been able to find them for a good price. Not sure how much they actually charge.

I'm not trading both of those D-men. I think McCabe is going to be a really solid D in the future, a very nice 3/4 guy. Him with Myers would be a terrific pairing...and love his leadership. Pysyk though, I'm beginning to wonder about. I'm hoping he's down in Roch because we are tanking and Mezaros and Benoit are taking his spot for that purpose. If not, what's going on with him.
Skinner would be a good add though and they can have Staff, Stewie and one of the later 2015 1sts

- IonSabres

I'd love to give them garbage for gold but that's just not how it works. It's not how any of this works!

If they're willing to trade Skinner, they're rebuilding. And if they're rebuilding, they're not taking on a 2nd and 3rd line UFA talent. They're going to want picks and a good young player. They could use a scoring winger like Stafford (don't laugh) but they'll require a young player ready for the NHL or soon and at least one first. Which is how I came up with my proposal. I don't think the Sabres have any young forwards they can part with comfortably. Maybe Fasching? I mean, I wouldn't want to...but Bailey and Fasching and Compher seem to be pretty similar.

Our depth is leagues better than 05'-06', and we both know we don't need playoff talent for like another 3 years.

PNC Park in Pittsburgh is really nice. Tickets are reasonably priced and it's not a terrible drive from Buffalo.
- HonkFortheGoose

I've only been to two MLB ballparks, Arlington and Atlanta... Arlington was really nice. I've driven by a poop ton of others but never went in.

Fair enough. I agree, I don't need another Tiny Tim..but the kid shoots a ton and that element is non existent on this team. I'm wondering is Eberle would be cheaper.

I love the player, like you, but I don't want to give up on a solid d-man for a guy who plays 3/4 of a year and will likely continue to play that amount or less as his career continues.

I still don't think it's a good idea to move either of them right now. I'd be willing to part with Ruhwedel, but mostly because he was a college FA signing and it's possible they could find another one like him.

To your point that it would be 3 years before they'd make a playoff run, I'd love to have guys like Pysyk and McCabe be the depth guys, but by then, they'll actually be on the roster. They need guys to fill in behind them and right now, they just don't have it.

I think it's interesting that after the Risto/Zads draft, everyone was crowing about how the Sabres were set at D for the next generation; and now we are worried about our depth less than 2 years later.

I like him but I do agree that he may not be a Murray type. Its pretty clear hes been going after players with size.

I think they're set for their roster players, now comes making sure you have very solid 7/8 guys for the inevitable injuries.

If Eberle is not a Murray guy that concerns me. A 24 year old speed winger who averages 60+ points a season.

Yea Ill take that.

It's kind of the same reason why Edmonton doesn't have any depth. When the players get drafted and step right into the NHL lineup, you don't have anything coming up behind them.

While it's great to draft guys that can help now, it hurts you down the road. If they play the cards right, we've got time to shore it up since the bulk of our D is really young. None of them worth having are going to be leaving via UFA any time soon, so we've got time to get that area built back up again. But in the meantime, I'm not trading one of the guys we have on the cusp of making the NHL roster.
