Doughty. Suter. Keith. Weber. Giordano. McDonagh. Chara. Hedman.
Not real #1s who are better than Letang: Kronwall, Subban, Karlsson, Pietrangelo, Ekman-Larsson, Vlasic. - Johnny Wrath
Hedman????? He's not even the #1 on his own team........ |

I don't agree with Mr.Wrath, but Hedman is certainly the #1 on his team and he will win a Norris in the near future. |

All good players, but Tanger is head and shoulders a better all around D-man than the 4 in bold.
Letang does have his faults but he is an amazing talent. His speed and physicality are hard to find in an offensively gifted Dman. |

When you hear a comment and you're like nonsense but I'll give him a chance to explain then you see that crappy list you just ignore it.
Sorry Mcdonagh and Hedman are good defenseman but their names should not be next to the rest of the guys on that line |

He has the potential to be, but isn't right now. He doesn't belong yet with the likes of Suter, Weber, Doughty, etc. |

So there's only 8 #1 defense men in the league? Interesting - znagle
And apparently Ryan McDonagh and Victor Hedman are two of them.... |

I would take Hedman at 4/yr or McD at 4 something/yr over Letang at 7.25/yr if i was given the choice.
Regardless, Letang is a #1 on the Penguins any way you want to look at it. |

Just from the small sample (Pens vs Rags and TBL) I have watched Hedman and McD get absolutely toasted too many times. Tanger may get in trouble when jumping into the play but watching him get straight out beat to the outside or inside for that matter never seems to happen. |

I agree when you put take contracts into consideration... but then it's more a question of who is a better value, not who is a better defenseman.
I like all those players that Joe McGrath listed, but man... he's view of Letang is a bit distorted. |

Fact is Letang is a dynamic player and this team is much different without him in the line up. |

I don't understand the sarcasm, they both certainly belong in the conversation.
McD led the Rangers team in points last postseason, including having a major hand in ousting the Pens, all while playing 27 minutes a night.
If that doesn't constitute a #1 dman i don't know what does.
With that said he doesn't look as good this year, i blame it on fatigue. |

McD is struggling this year. I think its a combination of trying to do too much, his injury, and the captaincy. He'll find his groove soon.
Letang obviously blows him away offensively, but McD is one of the best shutdown defenseman and has some offensive upside. In terms of two way play, I'd say McD is the better all around defenseman and certainly a top 15 if not top 10 defender in this league. |

Just don't see it. It's hard to put him with the likes of Suter, Weber, Doughty etc....guys who play 25+ minutes a night, and Hedman is only getting 22 a night? |
