barasso is an as sholeee...he lived on our street in sewickley and promised to make it to multiple birthday parties, he lived about 5 doors down...and never once showed

also im fairly certain his wife stabbed him in the leg, so im sure he did something to deserve that

AND

wasnt that play offsides jsut prior to the goal in OT? I mean, I freeze framed it, and sure it was close, but the guy driving the center lane was off sides by about half a skate length by the time the puck crossed the line...BSSS

The question is whether he was a jerk before he moved to Sewickley, or if living in Sewickley made him a jerk.

But none of those teams can take on $5M in salary without sending us some back. Making it hard to trade Martin for futures.
- YouMeAndDupuis9

I agree, not sure where we can move him without taking back a chunk of change that would work. I was hoping the avs would be good this year and maybe we could work a trade for ROR with martin being a piece

That would be highway robbery. I'd do Martin, Spaling or Dumoulin, and a 1st

I saw it as a case of "evening the playing field" from the referee's perspective. That old adage of "not wanting to control the outcome of a game" by giving even a single non-automatic powerplay to a team that can easily score on between 1/3 and 1/2 of them, thereby giving them a high likelihood of getting at least 1 PP goal in a game. Cause they're going to get about 1 automatic call every game with a hand on a puck or a puck over the glass or something.

The problem is that it essentially creates a situation where different rulebooks are used for each team during each game. What is a penalty for 1 team is not a penalty for the other and vice versa. It leads to frustration, which leads to complaining about it directly to the refs, which leads to accusations of "whining" which leads to refs not wanting to be shown up by star players, which leads to further reinforcement of the 2 rulebook philosophy as "punishment for whining".

It's a vicious circle that IMO, can only be escaped by either keeping entirely quiet about it & hoping that it eventually ends & that they end up looking more like the "victims of bad reffing" by non-Pens fans, causing the optics of the situation to shift, or they really lay into the league in the media after each & every game. Not by the players but by the coach. It's the one thing that some coaches are really good at. They'd work the refs in the media after games & almost shame them into at least 1 or 2 extra calls the next game.

According to Capgeek, both Anaheim and Minny have the cap space to take on Martin's contract. Even so, if it took retaining 20% to get the deal done, i wouldn't have a problem with it.

It's semantics, but I'd never call someone with injury issues a bust. Busts are guys who can't play. Bennett can play, he's just had a series of unfortunate events that have delayed his development.

I mean, dude just turned 23.

- hardnosed

Greg oden is considered a bust due to his injuries. He went 1st overall with Kevin Durant going 2nd. Not saying beau is a bust just saying that injuries could result in a top pick being called a bust.

I'd say a bust is a top pick that just doesn't work out for whatever reason.

The barasso thing had to do with multiple cases of cheating, another player on the team at the time, that player's wife, as well as Tommy B's wife if the story I heard from a guy that was "in the know" at the time is accurate. She stabbed him in the thigh with scissors.
- ScienceJesus

yep and that should tell anyone all they need to know about this doosh

and yea that play was totally offsides, I yelled it as soon as it happened then once they scored I went back to check if it was and sure enough...

Ahh thanks for clarifying. My bad. I has just assumed contenders would all be within $5M of the cap limit.

Dallas has space as well. There's a team that definitely might throw us some good futures for Martin. Maybe Ritchie. But more likely something like two 2nd rounders.

He has to submit a list of teams he won't go to, ie no oilers etc.. he will leave contenders open most likely. Anaheim, LA, Minnesota (where he's from)

Ok, thanks. I was curious about that cause what if he thinks the pens have the best shot to win a cup? If I was him I'd say nah I'm good, I'll just hangout here

Yeah I have heard variations of the story from several people. I think it got to the point where Lemieux despised him and tried to do what he could to find a replacement.

Next years draft if supposed to be filled with talent, I would be more comfortable with martin, dumoulin and a 2nd. I'm sure we could use him.. we could use another top 9 with some size and battle on the boards/in front of the net as well

So a ticky-tacky interference penalty on Spaling (where he didn't even actually make contact with anyone) by the same ref that seconds before watched Sid get hooked and turned around is not "2 different sets of rules"? Ok cool. Apparently we don't watch the same sport.

That post was just the most stereotypical penguins fan post ever is all. Everything people hate on you guys for (arrogant, entitled, whiny, etc.) was on display there. Like do you actually believe refs don't give you guys more PPs than your oppenents because they want to keep it fair?

On the flip side, since this coming draft is filled with talent, a 1st round pick should be more valuable then previous years.

I think the Avs want more for him, depending if he's even on the market. And whether thats fair value or not, I dont know, but I would guess they want more. EDIT -- he does seem to be struggling this year a bit. Maybe last years goal totals were a fluke. Still an all around solid player.

I think he is part of the solution. ROR + one of Perron/Tlusty/Rattie/Jurco would be just what the doctor ordered, in my very humble opinion.

Besides it being close to lunchtime, my gut tells me that nothing is going to happen until Jan and whether or not they can retain Erhoff. I think he signs a cap friendly deal to stay with Pitt. He is already being paid a nice chunk of change for the next few years thanks to being bought out by Buffalo.

Maybe not for that reason, but for some reason the Penguins are not getting power plays. You can let it go for a few games and right it off as coincidence or random, but after 14 games, it seems like something more.
