I am personally in the camp that thinks they should try and trade Letang. Not because I don't like him or don't think he is any good. This team has depth at D and a serious lack of it at winger going forward. The Dupuis and Bennett situations are scary and Kunitz is 35. Trading Letang gives them the best chance of getting quality wingers. Plus if he is as elite as everybody thinks he is, even better.
Id like them to make a play for Nichuskin from Dallas. This guy projects to be a stud. Dallas sucks on defense. Make it happen Rutherford.

I've mentioned the same thing before, you would have thought the world was going to end. People don't want to give to get.

Because it's easier to find wingers than to find another Kris Letang.

I tend to agree but with what he can bring and what forwards we have I just feel as if not having Letang is a lot less of a burden given how much of a burden it's going to be if we keep using 4th line wingers on the first. However the Pens managed to do well so far...

Exactly.

We can get wingers with our D prospects If we wanted to.

Go grab Kuznetsov from Wash. He'll be expensive but would be a Star with us.

Using 4th liners on the first is temporary. And the Penguins don't need superstar wingers for Crosby and Malkin. They need competent wingers. Like Hornqvist, Kunitz, and even Comeau.

There's going to be affordable short term patches available for decent prices, it's just a matter of patience on the part of fans. It's only December.

And long term, Kapanen is killing it in Finland. Blueger has been killing it at Minnesota-Mankato. Folks don't talk about Blueger but he's going to be really good.

Offensively, defensively, and on both special teams units, the team is noticeably worse with Letang out.

Yes, but thats a very far different statement than Letang is the #1 Dman in the league...

Also, I want the "E Kane trade speculation" to finally be true, and we give up like, (for example) Pouliot, Bennett, and a 2nd/1st for him.

Because why the hell not.

Yes, but can't trade a hurt player right? Would he fit cap wise?

Who's his style of play similar too and when might he join the Pens? Blueger I'm talking about

He's a couple years away. Not sure if he'll go back to school for his senior year. He's a point per game player at the college level right now.

Freakishly skilled. Handsy, great shot. Dangler. Super creative. Good but not great skater. Needs to get bigger.

Fast forward to 1:02 or so...

I wouldn't give them that much credit, they lost 12-1.

But the reason I posted that is that I've never seen a spinarama backhand from the side of the goal before, and I wanted to see one.

All this talk about trading Letang, Malkin, and Fleury is a waste of time. Guys, we are not only cup contenders, but maybe even cup favorites when everyone is healthy. We will not be shaking up our core. Something did have to change, but that shake up came in the form of bringing in a new system, getting a new brain trust to run our FO, and trading away the locker room cancer otherwise known as James Neal (not too sold on that. Seems to be doing just fine in the Music City). Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz, Letang, Fleury, and Maatta are going nowhere until we prove that we are still broken. Any trade suggestions that involve anything other than Martin, Sutter, Spaling, D prospects, and picks are never going to happen. Maybe Scuderi if we are all very lucky.

I'm not saying that they should be moved, but if anyone close to high profile on this team is going to be moved it will be those two. I stated earlier in this thread my reasoning for why we shouldn't move Sutter, and I talked ad nauseam over the summer and the beginning of the season as to why Martin shouldn't be moved unless its for an absurd deal. After seeing Scuds bounce back a bit, gaging how Ehrhoff fits into the picture, and being pleasantly surprised by Despres, I've since backed off a bit on my stance on Martin, but I'd still be hesitant.

Unloading Scuds and Spals for cap relief and picks would be best case scenario right now, but I don't really see it happening. Then we can mess around with packaging prospects and picks for forward help and not worry about our cap situation.

I'm right with you, including the softening of my stance on Martin. I still think he's a key cog, but I admit it's possible he's moved.

Damn, Islanders lose their second game in a row where they lead 3-0 after the first period.

That team would be a legit contender with a real coach.

I wonder what the price would be, because Morin is intriguing. He could fit in a multitude of spots. His shot would work well on the Crosby line, that's something that the first line could use. But he could also help make the third line very dangerous, with him and Sutter and soon Bennett.

Only concern would be that it's another righty, but he's got experience playing on the left so it's less of a concern.

That is the way I am looking at it. He is a natural off-wing, tough to find. Tlusty is still tops on my current list, but I believe this kid has what it takes to be a good fit.

Maybe, he has a history there.

I'd call Paul MacLean if I were them.
