Just don't know if Casino workers and such would build a good fan base . And that is a good part of the population .

MGM would have to offer tickets to their M Club players as incentive to stay there. In addition to the tickets there would need to be free play, food and beverage credit, pool (depending on when the game is) credit and other incentives to get tourists to go. I know that fans from teams like Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago and many other cold weather areas wouldn't be opposed to going to games, but it would take incentives to go to the game over the billions of other options in Vegas.

Don't need expansion right now . Move Arizona to Vegas and Florida to Quebec . To shore things up first.

The league may not "need" expansion, but the $400 million+ expansion fee may be enough to make them "want" it.

You guys all suck at this guessing game. I thought it was blatantly obvious that the combination of sbroads, 365, jochfr, and rmiethaner versus me are like oil and water.

The argument you could make here is that last time they tried this, that money dried up really fast and the nhl was put in a tough situation financially.

The other problem is the two "sure fire" cities that have been considered for expansion are both eastern teams.

Big piece of change but you better get healthy first and those two teams are not healthy . Especially now that Arizona deal has fallen through . How much money is the league losing in Arizona every year?

No, I agree with you. That just doesn't necessarily mean that they won't try it.

Just wait until they get the next Sabres TV contract when MSG's runs out in 2016.

Vanek is calling his agent right now...."sooooo, how can i get traded to this potential Vegas team?"
In all seriousness, I think the idea is to create a destination for 29 other cities fans to go to in order to watch their team play an away game. I think it's a pretty risky move because if a couple of teams that suck play in a row, there isn't going to be anyone in the seats. I'm not a 100% Don Cherry "old school hockey" kind of guy, but I also don't love Bettman trying to turn Hockey in to basketball with skee-ball and strippers thrown in to the mix. Not that there's anything wrong with either of those two pieces of entertainment.

From what I've read (red), It will be a bad thing. Have direct tv.

Love it.

Have DirectTv and love it as well.
Would really like to see Empire Sports Network reincarnated.

From what I understand, the days of independent Sports Networks are numbered (even though Empire was owned by Adelphia). If Buffalo was ever to get a local sports channel, it would be a project of one of the cable companies. It would be a greatly revamped Time Warner Channel, a Comcast channel, or someone like Fox Sports or Root Sports would come in and set up a satellite channel.

Yeah.

I only realized it because I knew they played 3 in a row this weekend, so if they played again tonight (and thus 3 shutouts in a row....ugh) then the schedule makers did something wrong.

Considering dropping my cable provider and going with internet, air antenna, netflix, and hulu plus. Does anybody have any luck using a proxy with the nhl package on roku or chromecast?
