looks to me like he did wait for the puck to settle before he clearly drove trhe puck over the flyers bench. the puck is flat when his blade strikes it. or very close to flat on the ice.
someone upthread sugeesting how we didnt know if he was trying to send it down the middle of the ice? his follow through goes right towards the boards.

He had time to control it and then make a more controlled clear or even skate it out. he had plenty of room to get it out to center ice and waste more time off the clock.

He simply skated up to the lose puck and let rip. Zero need to do that when the team is trying to kill the clock as well as the penalty

Flyers finally win and there's a multi page debate on whether or not umberger could have had cleared a puck better. Tough crowd!

turned out to not be an issue, but imagine if LA tied the game after that bonehead play?

We'd be well over 1,000 posts by now and umberger's head would be on a post outside the FARG

That's the Philly Fan Approach..

Giroux is having a great year and 2 days in a row people have questioned his performance (yesterday he wasnt intense enough and today he takes shifts off)

The Flyers win last night and the same members of Team Negative were literally unhappy they won..

Its not hard to figure it out..The same posters that are only happy when they lose, only complain and literally find something wrong with every single shift.

still wouldn't have masked the issue that brayden coburn sucks as an NHL dman
taking the body instead of the puck lead to the first goal

I would rather always have my dman take the body instead of the puck.

Cobyrn doesn't bother me. That goal was more on Schultz IMO. He let his man go and Coburn had to essentially cover two men there.

Unfortunately, there's plenty of issues to feed that attitude with this team currently. I have no issue with legitimate criticism, but there should always be objectivity involved. Seeing that with the Umberger play and the false criticisms involved with that. A puck rolls on a player, it hard to control where the puck goes. Happens all the time in the sport.

Yup..Im not even talking about objective people..you and Jsaq (bump heads) but in the end you are both objective in what you say, at least in my opinion.

Their are other posters on here that do not post when they win, don't post when something good happens but as soon as something bad does they show up and go insane.

I'm completely negative

Actually, I am ecstatic at the win. It salvaged a horrible day at work. We had 2 call outs, 2 other guys on vacation and another guy on a special project. It was me & one other dude and he's not certified to do commercial work...so guess who got all the commercial stuff.

I was able to watch the first period at a nice rectory where the priest originally hails from Saskatchewan, and he understood my need to work with one eye and watch with t'other

I've been pretty absent since the win so not wanting to be lumped with the insane posters...

The only real good thing I took form the game yesterday was Mason's play. He stole us two points. His play recently was good enough to steal us a few more, but that's for another time.

I made references toward both Cooter's play and Umberger's gaff. I did so because of their respective timing. Each were the products of bad decisions. Both players had ample time and space to clear the puck safely down the ice avoiding the sideboards, but each choose to drive it off the glass instead.

Coots' decision, while shorthanded, landed off the ice resulting in a defending zone faceoff. Umberger's rocket landed in the expensive seats, resulting in a penalty. Each at a time when we were up by only one goal.

Unlucky? OK. But why run the risk when there was open ice in front of them?

My criticisms were made when the incidents occurred because each was preventable and each placed the Flyers in an unnecessary and dangerous position.

In my view, the benefit of the doubt has to be given in the Umberger play, because of the rolling puck. In that situation, the puck can go anywhere. I think if the puck going on edge is not considered as a big factor in why the puck went out of play, then there is a lack of objectivity there in my opinion. It's always a risk to clear the puck up the middle, and with King point man up there, the hard rip off the boards or the glass is the right play. The puck was rolling.

Here is something to get excited I think.
Im pretty sure we all think Sanheim is our best shot at a true number 1 dman in the future.

Bill Meltzer
@billmeltzer
In his last 6 GP, Flyers 2014 1st rd pick @sanheim17 has 3G, 9A, 12 PTS, and is plus-seven.

Which is why Umberger needed to be extra cautious with his decision to try and drive it off the glass.

It is always a risk to send the puck up the middle, but in this instance - at least from my vantage point, nestled in the corner of the soft confides of my couch with a face stuffed full of Tostidos - it seemed he had no obstruction in front of him.
