Jared Cowen is a healthy scratch for the Ottawa Senators against the Pittsburgh Penguins this afternoon. I guess Ottawa has been disappointed with his play this season.

1-0 Pens, Malkin out of the box, fortunately unassisted with Crosby on the ice.

I just printed out a paper protractor as I get ready to align my turntable correctly to listen to albums that came out decades ago.

Yes, that one. It was a real good shot, and I don't think it's a bad goal by any means. But I think Mason will make that save on a lot of occasions when he's at his best. Not blaming him for it, as the play in front of him on that sequence was horrendous.
- MJL

I get you're not blaming him, but that shot was insane. From the bottom half of the circle, post in? You could hardly see that puck off the stick. That was a snipe. No goalie in the league stops that shot...only way a guy like Getzlaf doesn't score that is if the goalie gets lucky and he rings it off the post or misses the net imo (obviously, but you get my point )

I took a final this morning and walked to and from it in the pouring rain, and now currently cramming for my Monday final.

I'm vacationing on the west coast and we got the Philly CSN feed fr the Ducks game and we are getting it again for the game today. Weird that the local Comcast station would pick up the Philly Comcast broadcast. But I'll take it.

It was a snipe. But in my opinion, Mason's glove hand is just that good. And he can make that save. He shot it above his glove in a tight spot, but I can see Mason making that save. Maybe I'm wrong there, but that's the way I saw it.

Nope.

However, I stole a poncho from the school for the walk back, because we're having an open house today. During finals week. Who the (frank) thinks that's a good idea??

Also the pass threat was very much in play from an elite playmaker like Getzlaf.

which one is that? goal 3 - the wraparound or goal 4 on the pp?
- hammarby31

Honestly don't remember, but there was one where he was beat by an unscreened shot that I thought he could have stopped if he had been out on top of the crease.

But overall, he played very well. IMO, after Voracek & Giroux, he's been our 3rd best player this season.

He had basically no reaction time. Imagine someone throwing an 80 mph fastball from like 10 feet away. Most saves made like that are from the shooter shooting it at a spot where the goalie already is

Goalies make saves where they have little to no reaction time, all the time. My point of view is not really to criticize Mason there, but I have that much respect for his glove hand. I think he'll make that save at times. Mason did not have to move side to side on that, and Getzlaff had the puck from outside of the blueline. Mason was in position well ahead of the shot being taken.

Perfect placement by Getz... sometimes the shot is just too good to stop.

Yea, his glove is great, but I'm saying most saves made with little or no reaction time are made because the guy is already moving that way, or great positioning. A perfectly placed shot like that one from that spot scores nearly every time

Like I said, I may be wrong, and it was a great shot. I just think it's a save Mason is capable of making.
