I would hope to get more for Schenn, as right handed defensemen have a somewhat higher premium.

I mean I'd love it, but realistically, that's about all he's worth right now

Grossmann, yes. Schenn? That's a kick in the nuts.

Gotta get him on the ice a lot more, make or break him - definitively - as a player.

This team blows, and I mean really blows. Deep throat style.

I wish Holmgren was down wiping floors in the KFC, sucking back on grand[a's old couch medicin.

Hell, and if we are at it. Can we please find someone to give chronic wussy puss to vinny? Maybe keep him from the rink.

The only way the Flyers get in position to draft Eichel, or McD is if they get there honestly - by continuing down the path they are laying out for themselves. They don't have enough to move up to get either of those two otherwise.
- 77rams

Well, I'm talking about a scenario where the Flyers already "earned" a high pick, say 5th....and they wanted to move up to 2nd...they could offer their own pick an maybe a package featuring Coburn or B Schenn or Couturier plus a late 1st or 2nd if they had to. Depending on the team's they'd be dealing with and who they covet, such a deal wouldn't be impossible. The Flyers almost had a deal with Florida for their top pick last season so they could take Ekblad...maybe another pick they acquire somewhere along the line could be a sweetener that helps close the deal...it's a long time between now and the draft...we'll see how things develop.

You're going to have to include Voracek at least to get that done.

A lot of you aren't taking into consideration that nobody wants the Flyers players. Their best asset is whatever pick they get this summer. Nobody wants anything to do with VLC or Umberger. The defense - no way, not even for a 4th or 5th (except possibly MDZ). No one wants Read. They want Couturier and Simmonds - but way less value that us Flyers fans would be content with because the league knows what time it is in Philadelphia. So basically the roster isn't going to change much apart from the roto-scratching that's been going on.

I don't agree with that. The Flyers could trade their defenseman. Coburn would have significant value on the trade market. MacDonald's contract probably limits the market for him, but it's not because he's a bad player. And I don't want to trade him anyway. Read would also have value, but I believe he's more valuable to keep. I agree that teams might try to take advantage of the Flyers position, but that doesn't change the value of player like Couturier and Simmonds.

That's all it is, two opinions. It's all good.

At his best, Grossmann can be a good, solid stay at home physical guy that makes life miserable for opposing forwards. He did it last season, down the stretch and in the playoffs.

- Jsaquella

I think at his best, Grossmann is those things you mention, but also a bit more...he can join the play and make keep ins and get some shots in...it's rare that he gets beat on his pinches like he was the other night. 95% of the time he stays within himself. Not to make excuses, but those annoying icings he does sometimes are largely due lack of support and not having other viable options to clear the puck (nor the skill to deke around forecheckers and take it out himself). Grossmann has his limitations but he's a beast along the walls, blocks a ton of shots, and lays a ton of clean checks, including in the crease area where he keeps guys from camping out. I feel his skating and puck moving ability, though far from stellar, are a bit underrated as well.

No player is mistake free, and Grossmann has made his, but when you look at the yeoman's work he does on a consistent basis, he's been one of the team's more dependable and effective d men. His even strength numbers seem to back that (not so much on the PK as of late).

I question some of Berube's moves too but I wouldn't lump Grossmann in with those needing to benched. Not that he's played great lately, but neither has 80% of the team. I think Berube's apparent trust and confidence in the player is more or less justified.

I don't think so. The 5th overall, either Sean Couturier or B schenn and a 2nd rd pick...that's a pretty good package for a 2nd overall pick. The receiving team gets a very good prospect with that 5th overall selection, a young talented roster player with considerable upside and a 2nd rounder, which could be a good one in a deep draft. Not saying every team would make that deal, but something akin to that deal wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

The problem really lies in the fact that the Flyers don't have a legitimate top shutdown defense pair. So they have to use a player like Grossmann, because of the attributes that you describe here. The downside is that he doesn't have the puck skills to move the puck efficiently. But that's not Grossmann's fault. He is what he is as a player.

We disagree here. Any talks of moving up to the first or second pick is going to involve Voracek, if not Giroux.

I think if trying to trade up from after the top 10, I'd agree. But there are usually surprises in the top 5 where a team just really wanted a certain player that wasn't necessarily ranked as high as the consensus had him..that sometimes makes these kinds of deals possible. Florida passed over Seth Jones with their 2nd overall in 2013 to take Barkov, who was ranked 4th or 5th. A team in 4th or 5th might have been able to trade a package such as I mentioned with Florida to move up and take Jones. It's not an exact formula and there are human elements...a deal I or you think might favor one team over another might be seen differently to two GM's in deal talks.

with the new lottery structure the Flyers may have a legit shot at a top 2 pick, but I am thinking Hexy will have a plan b to make a play for McDavid or Eichel if they don't. It's still a ways away and we'll have to just see how things play out before we can better assess probabilities.

It's all good, there's valid points you've made, I just disagree on Grossmann.
