If he asks for a trade and his agent is allowed to make teams aware of this someone will take him sooner rather than later.
- hereticpride

I can't see him wanting to stick around here
4th line RW, off the PP, now getting benched

Still someone would be crazy to trade for him even if he is retiring early

It's a shame you cant restructure deals in the NHL. Is there any way Vinny can opt out of his current deal after the season or something?

I've been doing a little reading up on mutually agreeing to terminate a contract. It's been done with quite a few players. One thing going against the Flyers is Lecavalier's NMC. Because quite a few players have been waived, cleared, and then demoted. The players refuse to report, and then both sides agree to mutually terminate. I wouldn't expect Lecavalier to walk away from the money. And you also have to steer clear of Article 26 and the System Arbitrator.

The Blues recently did this with Peter Mueller.

Mix Rich Pilon and Pär Styf's gene pools and the Flyers' blueline could be stocked for generations.

Can they come to an agreement on a settlement amount in order to cut ties?

No, that would not be allowed. A buy out is the mechanism for a "settlement".

You asked about a settlement and if it was possible. I told you about a settlement option.

Hexy trades Vinny and a 7th rounder to the Flames, Buffalo or some team with cap room. That voids his NMC,right? They then waive him and he refuses to report. Everyone gets off the hook.

He waives his NMC to get traded. I guess I'm confused if a NMC still stands after a trade or not.

That's what happens when you know that if you aren't bringing it every night, you won't be part of the future -- theirs and maybe nobody else's

There's something to be said for short contracts and less job security, for some guys
