No, I mean it was nonsense in the sense that Laviolette asked his players to cool it on the drinking, which is reasonable but the players declined which is also reasonable.

Fast forward to today, Lecavalier is getting benched for wearing street clothes and eating Nachos? Bench him for not playing well, not for having a snack.

Where is the article about nachos and street clothes. Honestly asking I haven't seen poop.

I will say, I do think 18 can be a good enough fourth line guy. Well at the very least/best a warm body there. Not sure Hextall wants to have the club look even more foolish, or himself for that matter by buying him out.

I get the anger toward that trade but I still make it if its the best available deal there was at the time. The salary cap savings once Umberger is done and Hartnell is still being paid will be beneficial.

- flyer_nutter

I don't think Hextall cares one iota how he looks or what people think. If they can't trade either Lecavalier, or Umberger, I'd keep Umberger and buy out Lecavalier. It's not ideal to have a 4th line player with a 4.6M cap hit, but at least Umberger can play on the 4th line and be serviceable. If Lecavalier isn't going to score, can't play him anywhere.

I was kidding. You said earlier that Vinny was practically benched because he didn't play much last game. I'm taking the position there is a big difference between being dressed and not playing much versus being in the stands in street clothes eating chicken wings and drinking ridiculously expensive domestic beer. Lucky for Vinny he's earning insane amounts of cash for every game so he can afford it.

Wow, way over my head. Totally don't get this type of thinking.

Yeah, but any way you look at it, a 4th line player making 4.6 per is a disaster. Hopefully looking foolish is down on his list a bit.

I admit I was one who wasn't too busted up about the deal because I thought Umburglar would be somewhat better and not burglaring the Flyers as much as he is. I was wrong, really wrong.

A 1.6 hit for 4 seasons is not even that bitter a pill to swallow when all is said and done. Mostly because of the role he plays now.

When did Lecavalier become a power forward?

I think they could find someone better for even at 1 million for example to play that fourth line, but damn right. If it comes down to who t employ, 18 is the lesser of the two evils.

Its time to ship #40 off to the undying lands Bilbo style.

The buyout for Umberger would be over 4 years with a cap hit of 1.6M for the first two year, and 1.5M for the last two years.

Agreed. I have a lot more confidence in Umberger being able to contribute (with anything remotely resembling consistency) in that capacity, than in Lecavalier finding a good fit here at this point.

Sniper maybe but how often do we see Lecavalier hit. He can fight but that's as much power as you'll see. That and his shot. He's just tall.

Its poop. In an ideal world I'd buy them both out, and trade Happy. Go out and find another decent guy in Europe to bring over. FA class for this next off-season blows, even for fourth line guys.

I just made that up. I thought the sarcasm was pretty strong.

But seriously, the Flyers have zero tolerance with Nacho Eaters.

Corrected above.

You make a good point. But VLC would be on for 6 seasons. First 3 at approx 2.9, last three at $888,889.

Agreed buy him out and fill the 4th line LW spot with a guy making a million or less. You'd still save at least 2 million on the cap

That hobbit can actually play and is a UFA this summer. 3.5 now, and will be looking to cash in. Good player but stay the hell away.
