I am petrified at who will be the steady partner to teach them the NHL ropes. Look here Robert, this is Luke Schenn. Hes been in the league for over 5 years now, you play with him and learn all you can.

Yeah that does scare the crap out of me too

Very ferocity. In what I did see from him, in the limited minutes that Craig thought he deserved, by far the lowest of any d-man.. He looked like he needed more time imo.
- flyer_nutter

I agree, but what I also saw was some outstanding raw talent. He got criticized for that one move where he cut out in front of the net, but I loved it.

I think you have to hang on to Streit, MDZ and possibly Coburn. Everyone else is expendable under the right circumstances. No prospect is coming in and QB'ing the PP the way Streit can. MDZ is just playing too damn well to get rid of and Coburn, when on his game brings the shut down element that we aren't going to get from any prospects for a while. For Coburn it's about consistency moving forward if I'm keeping him or not.

I'd be fine with that... the rest gone. I'm not throwing 4 rookies in opening night but I don't need to see these guys back. I've seen enough.

Agreed, they can always add a low cost veteran or 3 if needed.

Mentoring is a good thing and can be a big help. But they have coaches to teach them the NHL ropes.

Actually it makes sense. Here you go Robert, you're going to play with Luke. Do the opposite of what he does and you'll have a long successful career!
- BiggE

Hagg apparently has a knock on him for not having enough "fire" or a consistent strong compete level. Something like that.

Berube will have him over his knee, with red hand prints on his ass by Christmas.

I think the Flyers defenseman as a whole get a raw deal.

I can see if the Flyers are counting on Gostisbehere making the team, moving on from Del Zotto.
- MJL

That's a tough call. I will say this: If we continue to have a rough go of it this year and Hexy makes MDZ available at the deadline that is a goldmine waiting to happen. The cap hit, the RFA status. If he continues playing well that is easily a late round 1st.

I think that is why you are seeing a steady improvement in Laughton's game. He has been told to thoroughly watch Vinny and the Corpse and at all costs just don't do anything they do.. And you will stay in the Bigs!

If you keep 3, you need to add 4. That doesn't make sense. I think it's risky to count on more then two of the young defenseman making the jump.
- MJL

Never said I was putting in a bunch of rookies. Defensemen are over valued right now. These guys we have and the guys who have signed these larger contracts out of July 1 UFA aren't that much better than the guys you can pick up for half that in August and September even.

Our D bill at the end of this season is far too large for what we're getting fed.

I liked what I saw from Hagg last Friday. Moves real well and always seemed to be in the right spot.

I think as individuals they get a raw deal.

As a whole? Not enough bad things can be said about them.

You aren't getting 4 defenseman to plug into the lineup in August and September. You'd be lucky to get one.

We got three this season who are no worse than the players in front of them. One is the best D on the team this season. Of course, that's pretty easy to pull off.

I'd like to see some consistent support and team play in front of them for a change. Even missing a true top pair, this is a decent group. The environment they have to play in right now is ridiculous to play in, and judge them fairly in, in my opinion.

I probably wouldn't take issue with bringing Shultz back if he holds up.

Depending on what happens with RJ/Vinny I could see Hexy cutting some serious cash on the blueline next year.

They got Del Zotto and Colaiacavo. There's a reason Colaiacovo was unsigned into the season. You can get any warm body. But I was assuming that we want some decent players.

I definitely want Schultz back, if he doesn't want a significant raise. Even if it's at the 7th spot again.

It's obvious Lecavalier and Umberger aren't a fit here and hold no real value but of the following names, who of the young would you trade get help?

A) Sean Couturier
B) Brayden Schenn
C) Matt Read
D) Michael Raffl

The other two have consistently outplayed members of the top-6 as well. (No idea why Colie's sitting right now)

And McBain is doing quite well in LA.

MDZ Coburn
Streit Grossman
Ghost Shultz

Carlo/UFA/Alt/Manning as your 7th and 8th guys

I feel something like this couldn't be much worse than what we're seeing as of late. In theory it would shave a few million off the cap as well.
