There isn't much. The secondary scoring is non-existent, the defense is a group of guys with limited skills and inconsistent performance, the special teams are poor...things are not going well. A lot of folks questioned the trade and contraxct for MacDonald, Ferraro's comments are not out of left field
- Jsaquella

Our d lacks defined rolls for the most part.

Look at our prospects.
Morin - mean, nasty, shutdown type
Gostisbeire - offensive, pp specialists
Haag - all around player
Sanheim - smooth skating McDonaugh type

They all seem to have defined rolls.

MacDonald has all the workings to be a true top 4 minute eating, puck moving, all situations d-man. He just needs to want it more.

I would say a true #2 defender is Girardi or Staal... McDonagh being the #1. Not Coburn because of default.
- GOA88

A #2 Dman is a guy who, in a perfect world, is the support guy on the top pair or anchors the 2nd. More often than not, they are often a teams top guy as many teams lack a true #1.

In their history, the Flyers have really only had 2 true #1 dmen: Mark Howe and for a short time, Chris Pronger. Guys like Desjardins and Timonen were really #2 guys.

You can be very successful, even win a cup without a true #1 guy. However if you lack both a 1 and a 2, as the current Flyers do, you will most likely miss the playoffs.

Only thing missing is right handedness. Here's hoping Alt and Friedman and Pitbull can come through.

The defense lacks alpha dogs. It's a bunch of guys who can be solid when they don't have to anchor a D-pair.

I could see the female doging now when the first puck enters the puck while he's on the ice.

"Damnit it Coburn! You're left handed, not right!"

Trust me, it will hurt.

He needs to be hungrier. I worry he's losing the incentive.... The pressbox has quite a spread from what I hear.

Not sure if he was part of it, but it was a ESPN poll of media.
- MJL

The connection between this ESPN poll and Ferraro's statements seems like kind of a stretch is all.

Which is why LSchenn was drafted as high as he was and one of the reasons why Homer was so enamored with him.

Give me all lefthanded shots if they can play. There were a boatload of lefthanded D-men who were perennial all-stars and played the right side.

Debatable whether or not they have a real #3 either.

Thought Coburn was that guy, but he obviously can't handle anchoring a pair.

Considering Ferraro was in no way, shape or form involved with the ESPN poll, it's immaterial to mention the poll to attack Ferraro's comments.

I thought he was over used during his rookie season but he played hard, no doubt.
