Could have kept Adam Hall for around $700K or less.

If we could take Rinaldo's wheels, Vinny's hands, and RJ's defensive ability, I think you'd have a good hockey player.

True. But I am hard-pressed to think of anyone else on this roster who plays against the competition he does, produces, yet still has his ability to lead questioned.

Sometimes, being a leader is producing when your team needs it. Not being called on the carpet because he hasn't inspired Matt Read to score an ES goal in a month

- AllInForFlyers

Again, it's not that he's not the obvious choice for captain. It's that I wish there was a more viable option. Like PSG said, I like the grizzled veteran type. Give me a Dustin Brown, Shea Weber, Jonathan Toews, etc. guy (not that they're easily acquired). But yes, given our options, he is the best choice.

Better have a way to unload a few NHL contracts or we're up against the max and have no ability to add players.

Nice article, as always, Bill.

Happy belated Thanksgiving, everyone. Happy VERY belated Thanksgiving, everyone living in Canada. Either way, we sure are getting more than our share of turkey from the Flyers this (urp!) season. Excuse me.

Sadly, there aren't enough guys putting biscuits in the basket and the one-line-deep team is floundering (Mmm, flounder...).

Enjoy your Cyber Monday!

Nemesis and the other one were crap, but First Contact is my favorite of them all, including the reboot.

It was actually more of a pre season hope than Umburglar and 20 20 hindsight.

Of course many folks here have been hoping for LTIR for him and the other piece of burnt toast

Unlike last year, I just don't see this current team bouncing back. I think its a pretty safe bet that they will be picking in the top 10 this June.

And I'm ok with that. I'd rather have a chance to land a superstar than either just miss the playoffs or barely squeak in and go out in the 1st round.

first contact's not as bad as the others, but next gen really deserved a good, boring, talkey, plot based movie.

Elliot Friedman had some interesting things to say on Sportsnet radio about the Flyers:

http://www.nicholsonhocke...ughts-on-schenn-couturier

“The tough thing for there is he doesn’t have a lot that other people want. Nobody really wants to take Andrew MacDonald’s contract. Nobody really wants to take Vinnie Lecavalier’s contract. Philly knows if they want to move those guys, they’re probably going to have to eat a chunk."

If you can move them and have to eat salary, then do it, if it less than or equal to the amount you are paying to buy them out

Otherwise, buy them out and move on

That is one way this team will.move forward, come.the summer. But if you can trade deadweight, then do it, because you aren't winning with the two worst forwards on the roster

You are not winning a deal or transaction with them

You only get to decide how bad you want it to be, unless you are really lucky
