Back to my point- if we don't get a top 2 we don't get a generational talent. Thus the year was a waste of time and money (season tix aren't cheap). I'm not sure how that can be disputed. Now if we get a top 2 it's a wait and see. Maybe there will be a light from this dread. But everything hinges on getting one of those two players.
- Khymlev13

Thanks for the hint, but since I'm a season ticket holder, I'm aware. I just don't see why you would rather they kept doing the same thing over and over again like they had for the last 10ish years. It didn't work then, so why do you think that would have worked now?

Dylan Strome and Noah Hanifin are not players to turn a nose up to.

Hanifin is in the Ekblad/Seth Jones category. Strome is in the Reinhart caliber.

It's not doomsday if we don't get that generational player.

Who is New York's generational talent? The team you want us to be?

This is the hypocrisy, you want to emulate the teams that did it without tanking, yet you recognize the need for great players.

ya know, y'all are right...

that dumbass Gionta...just because he's a little bit off-balance and a touch out of control, there absolutely no reason he should be targeting emelin's elbow with his head

What is it about this plan that makes you think they will be a SC contender? The biggest flaw in all of this is the assumption that it's going to work. You can mention pitt and chi and I can mention Edm, nyi, fla.

going back about 8 years to when the league evolved to where it is now, you need a stud center, a stud defenseman, and balanced scoring from the rest of the roster. the biggest problem for us is the number one center. you cant trade for one (maybe seguin or carter, but im reaching), and they rarely if ever hit ufa. our best bet is to go get one at the draft, grigorenko and reinhart are probably better suited as #2s or top line wings. murray is also addressing size, athletic ability, and compete (is that a thing?) with every pick and prospect he acquires. he is building a team to compete against the kings, blackhawks, ducks, and sharks of the world. could all of murrays picks and prospects fail?- sure, but considering where they were drafted, its a good bet some will hit. it was a complete teardown. we are going the right direction. its not fun, but this is the right thing.

It's amazing that you believe the only way to do something different is to sell every piece and be terrible. GM's get paid to build teams many different ways. This isn't an option most teams willingly choose, yet buffalo has.

Seguin was traded, and not for a king's ransom. That option is 100% better than being a 50 point team

You're right, there's other ways to go about building a team. They could have just let Vanek, Pommer and Miller all walk for absolutely nothing. Then they'd still be terrible and we'd have less top end prospects than we currently do. That would have been a much better option.

I don't want us to be the Rangers. I'm just saying that given the options of how we did it vs them, I respect that they made amends for bad signings and trades by moving those players without dismantling the team. How long did it take the sabres pre 2004 lockout to become a contender? One year. Two trades. This eventual 6 year plan is a real gem. You guys will be doing backflips when we're battling for 8th in 3 years.

Wow, great reply! Because that's what I was saying! Wow, thanks for your time and energy and dismissing my point. I also said multiple times that we could have moved those players for players, like the vanek deal. But hey, a sh*tty sarcastic reply trumps all.

Oh, so now your way is the the only other way than being terrible because we traded all of our players for things you don't like. Got it. I thought you said there were more than 2 ways to do this?

Things I don't like or 17 yr olds who wont make the league for 2-5 years. Yeah, I'm short sighted because I'd rather they trade maybe two of them for some sort of NHL return and maybe re-sign one of them. 30 goal scorers and a dependable above average goalie can fetch you more than picks/prospects.

How much different is this hit from the one that Kaleta got 10 games for?

I'd say they are very similar

EDIT: Except Kaleta used his shoulder for the hit, while Emelin used his ELBOW

HAHAHA. youve got to be kidding. darcy shopped for his little guys in the bargain bin for years going into that lockout. the league literally changed the rules which gave his team an advantage- and the market corrected two years later.

You're right. The league put the clamps on after two years. But the team he assembled was high in speed and skill, which is what the NHL should be. Don't fault him for building a talented team. You can fault him for not keeping it.

Can't say I disagree. Didn't we have a chance to get him for Vanek and Foligno? Another great gift from Darcy

While I know the answer why the league went away from calling all penalties and being a game of high end speed with chances going back and forth, it sure was a stupid decision. The game was much more exciting then it is now.

I have nothing to do with it. Though I think it's great he's getting some love. He deserves it. While he may not be like the other 4 guys on that list (yet), he has managed to get the two best offensive players on the team going since being put on the same line as them.

Agreed, I don't know if he'll finish in the top 5 by the end but I think he's earned the recognition. Probably him or Ennis with a realistic shot at representing us in the ASG.

Emelin fined no suspension? Time for the tin foil.

I'm pretty sure getting that line going is the exact reason that they've won 4 of 5. It's probably about time to shake things up and bit and move Girgs off of it. Don't want to get too far ahead of the rest of the bottom feeders.
