Couturier is far more then that. Are Moore and Boyle also 21 years old, with the potential to get a lot better and develop further as a player? Or is that not part of the equation?
- MJL

Moore and Boyle are what they are. And they are consistent and arguably 2 of the top defensive forwards in the league.

Couturier has the potential get better and develop, but he also has the potential to regress, which you are ignoring, which is happening this season.

Not sure why.....Flyers get best player in trade and the guy with the biggest upside in Schultz.....
- landros 2

I think you need to reassess both points. I don't think Eberle is that much better then Schenn is, to make it worth the 6M cap hit. And Schultz is not what you think he is.

I'm not ignoring anything. In fact I have made posts in this very thread this morning, discussing how the sub par play of Couturier and Read to this point of the season is affecting the Flyers. So you're incorrect in stating that I am ignoring it.

Ups and downs in development for young players is normal.

That's another player whose been invisible. I wish I knew. He started off incredibly well and then has severely cooled off. Part of the problem IMO is that Berube has shuffled shuffled shuffled the lines.. No way for anyone to create any chemistry.

He's looked pretty darned good w/ Laughts and Raffl last couple of games. They're due.

Eberle's goal totals since entering the league full-time: 18, 34, 16 (in 48), 28, 4 (in 23 so far).

Schenn's goal totals since entering the league full-time: 12 (in 54), 8 (in 47), 20, 7 (in 22).

Basically, Eberle has scored a total of 100 goals in 298 games. Schenn has scored a total of 47 goals in 214 games. To match the goal output that Eberle has put up in 298 games, Schenn would have to score 53 goals in the next 84 games.

Eberle IS that much better than Schenn.

The team as a whole was playing much better when Coburn was out injured. Is that a factor, or is it due to Coburn?
- MJL

Grossmann, MacDonald, and Coburn have been a dumpster fire this year. You can't have 3 of your top four suck.

When's the last time Baby Schenn and Coots were firing on all cylinders at the same time? Seems like everybody's always complaining about one or the other.

"he could also possibly regress" isn't a super compelling argument

MacDonald was a joke yesterday. I'm sick of his act.

He should be outfitted with one of these uniforms.

Omg, well then we'd have to win the odd game 6-5.. miss the playoffs by 40 pts. What people seem to forget is that successful playoff teams right now win by playing defense and with solid goaltending.,. yes they have to score, but the Edmonton model of keep drafting the best offensive talent on the board hasn't seemed to work because they've neglected the other end. That's why I've been baffled by their reluctance to trade O for some D in the form of defensive forwards or Dmen.
- Hextall271

You win no games where you post a goose egg. We aren't scoring. Coburn has been abysmal this year.

I think you could get Eberle for Couturier for a few reasons. Number one, Edmonton is looking for a shakeup. Two, they are looking for a big center via that shakeup. Three, they could use a player who has the potential to be a shutdown center. Four, due to Couturier's age, he is an attractive target because of his "potential".

With that said, potential is just that: potential. It is not guaranteed and is something that is always a gamble in sports. The Stars traded for Seguin due to his potential and they won that risk. On the other hand, the Oilers have held onto Yakupov due to his potential and he seems to be looking more and more like a bust every day and likely won't fetch much in a trade at all now.

I don't care what the Oilers need (spoiler: pretty much everything), and I don't need the concept of potential explained to me.

but fine I'll say it, trade couturier, he's a bust or w/e, now please leave

That only shows that Eberle has been better and developed earlier as a player.

You're making a false argument here. Because the point totals that Eberle put up in past seasons, won't help the Flyers now.

Right now, Eberle is on pace for 14 goals, and 39 assists for 53 pts.

Schenn is on pace for 26 goals, and 29 assists for 55 pts.

Eberle has a 6M cap hit, and Brayden Schenn has a 2.5M cap hit.

If we could eliminate the cap hit from the equation, I'd trade Schenn for Eberle. But that's not the case.
