Like the MacDonald signing also. Solid 2nd pair #3 puck moving defenseman.
- MJL

Streit's 4 year was bad.

MacDonald's was just bad, period. Years and money.

The reality is that a coach is going to be judged on how his team plays. Even if it's not the coaches fault per se. That's life as a coach.
- MJL

Is this how you would judge a coach or just what you think the prevailing/mainstream view would typically be?

If it's the latter, please elaborate on the criteria you, yourself would use to judge a coach's performance.

that'll do. I really hope I don't have to start researching these players this early in the season. But this list will come in handy if the season continues to unravel like this.

I disagree. I like both players, and have no problem with either contract.

Doubt he would've signed for 2 years.

I would have let him seek greener pastures.

do you think the Columbus GM asked Hextall if he was joking when he asked for Umberger

I wouldn't have. They needed a puck moving offensive defenseman. And they needed his big point shot. He upgraded the Flyers defense, as does MacDonald.

No, but I would think he said "Deal!" and got the paperwork filed ASAP.

I was going to change my Hartsy avatard but i am keeping that poop in protest. That trade sucked.

Do they call him Umburglar because he is stealing a roster spot?

I like Streit's deal but was hoping for only 3 years. I hated MacDonald's the day it was signed and hate it even more today.

You can have both.

The Islanders obviously made terrible decisions by letting them walk.

I'm so damn sour at what's shaking out with them, i might just do that

How'd Luke Schenn look, relatively speaking?

- AllInForFlyers

Schenn made a decent amount of mistakes, but at least he makes them going full speed.

Has the League office ever demanded a breathalyzer test to complete a trade call?

So the story is that Hextall walked by a couple of the players in a hall in Wells Fargo and freaked out on them. At least this is how I heard it.

The Hartnell trade to me was like taking out one leg underneath a person and watching them fall. We were already weak at LW but Hextall took from from an area from weakness. You take away from the top line and gave back nothing to it.

I understand that mindset of why we traded Hartnell. I even understand that Hartnell did take stupid penalties. However, Hartnell game in some areas includes taking penalties. Going hard to the net sometimes results into a penalty. Sometimes play tough means taking a penalty. It's the mindless stuff he needed to cut down on. I can live with the bad skating if he can discipline the brutal stick infractions.

Pretty much in the same boat. I was optimistic regarding AMac but with how they've drafted the last few years I wish they would've signed a vet on a one or two year deal to get them to Ghost.

AMac's deal isn't as bad as some make it out to be. If they decided to move him I'm fairly confident that they could at least recoup the picks they gave up for him.

So Oilers fans want to trade us two 2nd rounders and Nikitin for Coburn and BSchenn.

I don't think Akeson was used well, but at the same time, because the coach will be held accountable for results, at some point, I do concede that a coach has the right to play who he wants

I would have handled it differently, but if Berube doesn't see fit to play him, I'm glad Akeson was sent down

Need Chief to get there with a couple more guys

- AllInForFlyers

I get the concept you raise, about it being the coach's call, I just disagree with the way Berube seemed to single out Akeson, putting him on a super tight leash while playing him in a miscast role and holding him accountable for not being that great in that role, despite his efforts, then singling him out publicly while others who made more egregious mistakes were spared the criticism and even rewarded with more pp time. How's a young player going to build confidence and make his way in the league when he's being treated like that?

All things considered, right now the Phantoms are probably the best place for him right now...getting set free from Berube's doghouse and getting away from the sheeet show he's running is probably the best thing for his future right now. Let him go down and play with a coach that knows what he can bring to the game and gain back the confidence Berube sucked out of him. Let Hexy re-evaluate down the line, maybe re-sign him cheap and he get's put into a more favorable role down the line (maybe when Berube is out of here).

If he didn't have a 6 year, 30 mil deal in his pocket, you might be right.

So, are you saying your view is the same as the one you stated. You judge a coach based on how his team plays?

So, based on how his team has played, how has Berube done, in your view? Can you elaborate on that?

You can scratch them both, and should -- Umberger should be waived

They are the worst two forwards, now that Akeson has been sent down. Use the cash you save by waiving Umberger and find someone who cares

- AllInForFlyers

What are they going to get with cash right now?
