Because he won't be as good as Reinhart/McDavid ( I know we need to draft him first) and possibly Grigorenko has more upside offensively. I think Girgensons is too good to be a 3rd line center.

IMO he ends up as a wing in the top 6 that will open up space for his line mates

- sbroads24

Either that, or he centers our that we put out there against the top lines from other teams... Entirely possibly we use him in a similar way we did with Drury
If that's the case,
We wouldn't technically have a line1, line2, line3
They'd all get roughly the same minutes

For what it is worth:

Eric Brewer, TBL, traded to the Ducks for a 3rd.

I think if either of these goalies had goal support and a stable D in front of them, they would be in the same category as a Crawford/Fluery (unless he's considered an elite goalie)
- thatsapickle

Even if I agreed with that...
Zadorov & Ristolainen still need time to develop into Keith and Seabrook
Reinhart & Girgensons have a ways to go before they get to the level of Toews & Kane
MAYBE McDavid is as good as Crosby was right away, but it even took him a couple years to win it... And who's our Malkin?

I love all the young talent we have
But the ppl that expect us to contend in 2015 have their sights set too high & too soon
But that's just my opinion

Also, I don't think Enroth or Neuvirth are starting goalies for a cup winning team
I don't think LA would've won last year with one of them, or Chicago on theirs, or even Pittsburgh...
But again, just my opinion

This is likely the best we could get for Meszaros/Benoit. Brewer was apparently scratched 4 of the last 5 games.

EDIT: I didn't mean to quote myself, but meant to edit... I should lay off the hockeybuzzing.

I do not disagree. I am more stating that it is possible for these two goalies to lead the charge deep into the post season, if the players in front of them live up to expectations. I think Risto and Zadorov are playing slightly ahead of the curve and are seemingly learning from the mistakes they have made thus far.

It would just be, like you said, a few years away.

I'm not sure.

Do you know what side Reinhart plays when he plays wing?

Maybe Reinhart takes the LW spot and Grigo is in the middle.

It's obviously a pipe dream, but I could see that line being effective. I would say Reinhart in the middle for the "vision" and the bigger bodies on the outside to make space.

It could be a lethal combo though.

Two years ago, Reinhart played RW on McDavid's line
He did also last year, but not exclusively. They mixed lines up a bit.

Still very debatable IMO as to whether either goalie can be good enough to win at all in the playoffs
Look at Philly... They had stacked teams for like a decade but couldn't break through BC they couldn't find a goalie
It's just so tough to tell what these guys will be able to do
For me, I just haven't seen enough from either

And this discussion was originally started BC someone thought we'd have a good shot to win the Cup starting next year
I think we're talking more like 2017 or so

Reinhart would be a right wing. He plays RW on a line with McDavid for team Canada.

I think Reinhart would move to RW on our top line in a few years if we end up drafting Eichel or McDavid.

I wouldn't want to move Grigorenko from center because of his size and strength. We desperately need to get bigger at center. We have enough power forwards to play wing in a few years. Bailey, Fasching, Armia, and even Baptiste and Carrier, all have size and all have top 6 potential. If two or more pan out and reach their potential we will have enough size on the wings. Really we have very few small prospects.

You don't need an elite goalie to win the cup. It doesn't hurt, but it is not a prerequisite, Pittsburgh and Chicago won multiple times with average or below goaltending. And our goalie prospects are above average.

The Sabres just signed a free agent forward from the OHL. Jean Dupuy? Does anyone know anything about him?

A far as goaltending goes, I have said since I saw him last year here, Neuvirth intriques me...I think he could be the real deal. He could easily be a myth as well. So we don't know....no one can say for sure that we don't have the future goaltender here already. Our best goaltender (Haseek) was trade to us, so maybe history has repeated itself.
I don't see Grigo moving to wing...he is a center in my mind. Reinhart a winger, maybe. But he too seems to be built to play center...as does Grigs.
My point is, if they all pan out..that is tremendous trade bait to get that top line winger, goalie or top pairing D-man to fill gaps in the roster.

Only UFA that should maybe get a contract thrown at him from us is Stafford. The rest should be on their way out. The build starts this offseason. And Stewart doesn't seem like he fits here.

We should start by firing Nolan. Bringing in maybe Evander Kane to add some scoring. Have Pysyk up full time. Maybe trade for Perron or Eberle.

Big kid.

Just turned 20.

Has 19pts in 19gp, which is the best he's done thus far.

Philly shows that you have to build through the draft - can't build winners by trading for established talent.

Colorado Avs show you can catch lightning in a bottle with young guys and a little luck. It will take us two or three years to figure it all out but we will contend next year.

Contend = make playoffs play solid hockey.

They had one, he was moved to Columbus.

I guess he's not really happy in Columbus. Won't agree to any of the contract offers they've given him.

He could be an intriguing option in the offseason....

He's an RFA though, I imagine he'll command somewhere near or more than what we got for Miller

That and there's a lot of risk in giving a goalie big money over a lot of years.

I know it doesn't seem likely now, but i'd hate for him to be our version of Cam Ward in a few years.

Perfect timing for the Stewart blog Mike!

Love the way he stood up for his teammate there. Prust hit Ennis a couple shifts before hand and you could see Stewart talking to Nolan before his next shift.

You have to keep a player like this on your team!

*If he is on the team during the Lucic hit on Miller, that hit never happens! I believe Myers had his chance that shift to be a leader and show he cares about his teammates.

Myers is not a fighter and you don't want him to be a fighter . For your information Myers and Ennis are best friends and lived together till Ennis got his big deal . Quit trying to make Myers something he is not . Stewart is our best fighter and likes to fight.
